Personal info: I have served as a steward for three terms. I've never been as superactive as some of my fellows (although I hope that my organizational support has proven useful for stewards as a whole group). Yet, more recently, since I've been elected to the Board of Trustees, my activity dropped even as compared to myself in the previous year. The reasons are plenty: most importantly, being on the Board sucked out most of my bandwidth (it really is a time-consuming job), and some small bits of my enthusiasm and soul (I at least hope I traded them for something useful for the movement). Secondly, every time I wanted to do something as a steward, in the back of my head I had a thought that my action will be perceived as a Board action, rather than a functionary one. For that last reason, I think that Board members should hibernate their involvement in higher level rights (but this is a different discussion, and also an approach with many flaws). Anyway, I've decided that my being a steward at this point in time is not adding value for the movement. I'm not going anywhere, and whether on the Board or not, I'm going to support our cause - but at this moment I believe it is time to step down from stewardship.
