Stewards/Confirm/2018

Warning

The 2018 steward elections are finished. No further votes will be accepted.

The 2018-19 Confirmation will begin on 8 February, and will finish on 28 February.

The 2018-19 Steward Confirmations are an opportunity for the Wikimedia community to comment on the performance of existing stewards. To make the process as smooth as possible, the confirmations are organized as follows.

To comment, please log in with an account that has edits (on any wiki) before 8 February. During the 2018 Elections, please mention if you are comfortable or unhappy with the use of steward tools of any of the people listed below and why.

After the election, stewards (including the newly-elected ones) are invited to review the confirmation comments and to give their impression of the outcome (consensus to confirm/remove etc.) on Talk:Stewards/Confirm/2018 for every steward who stood for confirmation. Of course, they are not required to do this for every candidate and will be especially careful to do it regarding someone about whom they expressed strong opinions in the confirmation. Non-steward comments are welcome outside of the "Final Decision" section, subject to the usual expectations of civility. Confirmation discussions will last one week after the appointment of the newly elected stewards. This may be extended to two weeks for one or more confirmations at the discretion of the Election Committee if the committee believes further input is required before concluding. The Election Committee will close these discussions and implement the outcome (which also means making a decision in non-obvious cases).

All stewards elected before February 2018 will undergo this process.

  • Personal info: Hello Wikimedia community! I've been a steward for four years now, and with your approval would like to continue to serve in this role. I am mainly active in responding to cross-wiki abuse, though I also handle rename requests and requests for permissions. I also spend some time answering our backlogged OTRS queue, and try to do some outreach activities to ensure that local admins know where to report cross-wiki abuse. If confirmed, I will continue to be active in these areas. Please feel free to ask any questions! A breakdown of my activity as a steward can be found using this tool. • Personal info: It has been an honor and privilege to have been a Wikimedia steward for the past eight years. At this point in my personal life and career, however, I do not believe I have the time to commit to more than the absolute bare minimum of 10 actions and attending a handful of virtual meetings. As my prior confirmations indicated a distinct desire for more than minimal participation—which I cannot commit to at this point—I intend to step down as a steward at the end of this election. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone with whom I have had the great fortune to work with at Wikimedia, from Jimbo and Cary Bass through James and Kalliope. From Spacebirdy and Thogo to Snowolf to the current group of stewards. It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with you all. Most importantly, I want to thank the Wikimedia community for trusting me with the tools to help the project grow and mature from infancy and teen years to what I would consider now to be its (early?) adulthood. Thank you all! Only G-d knows what the future will bring (and for some reason, my phone calls to the L-rd haven't been returned ) and thus whether or not I will have the time and energy to seek your trust in the future. For now, I wish you all, and all the Wikimedia projects, nothing but the best of health, happiness, and plenty of friends and loved ones with which to enjoy it! -- Avi (talk) 00:31, 9 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: Hello everyone. This is my first confirmation. During last year I was active dealing with cross-wiki abuse, (b)locking cross-wiki vandals, spambots/spammers and LTAs and processing steward requests. I would like to continue to serve as a steward for another year if I still deserve the confidence of the community. If you have any comment or suggestion about how I could improve my work, please let me know and I'll do my best. Thank you for considering. Defender (talk) 14:10, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Personal info: In December 2017, I became the first Wikimedia Steward who could celebrate their 10th anniversary and I'm very grateful that people are still trusting me since such a long time. Usually changing my focuses in the Wikimedia projects quite often, this has ever since been one of the few activities I enjoyed and contributed to without any breaks. According to the stats, my activity level remains high here. My main focus shifted over the years from fighting local vandalisms in the SWMT to stopping crosswiki vandalism, in particular, by patrolling abusive usernames and using my CheckUser access for that.

Beyond logged actions, I try to be responsive on IRC, at mailing lists, and steward phone calls; in the last 365 days, too, I closed more than 110 OTRS tickets related to steward activities. Knowing the development of the role of Wikimedia Stewards pretty well due to my long-term committment, I also try to explain to the Wikimedia public wherever possible what it contains and how they can help. In the last year, I used the invitation of Wikimedia Stewards to the Movement Strategy track at Wikimedia Conference which I participated in, to hold a lightning talk about Wikimedia Stewards, and gave a longer presentation about them to the German community at my anniversary party.

I'd like to continue with all these activities in the same way as in the last years and look forward to your feedback.

  • Personal info: This was my first year as steward, I've continued my crosswiki counter-vandalism/anti-spam activity. I've been handling requests on-wiki and from OTRS. I'm available on IRC most of the time for queries. I wish to serve another year with same level of activity.

  • Personal info: Hello everyone.

I have been a Wikimedian since 2008, active in the Small Wiki Monitoring Team since 2010 and have been global rollbacker and a global administrator until I got elected as a steward in early 2014. Furthermore I'm an administrator on Wikidata and casually active on various other projects. Also in 2010 I started developing user scripts in order to simplify and optimize some SWMT tasks. From there on I gradually became a MediaWiki (extension) developer over the years.

Nowadays I volunteer by helping to maintain MediaWiki extensions related to global administration and steward tasks, also I have access to the Wikimedia foundation's servers which I also occasionally use to support steward actions. Besides, I'm working as a Wikidata developer for Wikimedia Germany.

Sadly my steward related activity (both on wiki and on the technical platforms Gerrit and Phabricator) decreased over the past year, due to various real life commitments. I hope to be able to step this up once again to help out as much as I can, especially when it comes to technical topics. - Hoo man (talk) 19:44, 11 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
