What a great project

Wikidata can't handle it

Wikidata can definitely handle a pilot. 100 Wikidata items would be super useful.

I wrote this update about the state of Wikidata - Wikidata Graph Split and how we address major challenges Feb 2026.

After the migration in 2026 we have technological capacity to handle 100 million files. We can design Wikimedia projects around humans, and we do not have to conform human needs to the technology. WikiCite has been the most successful project in the history of Wikipedia/Wikimedia projects in terms of attracting institutional partners and government/foundation funding from outside the Wikimedia Movement, and WikiCite has also been very popular in other ways as documented at WikiCite.

I recognize the many major problems - yes as ASarabadani says Wikidata needs reforms like URL management and many other fixes - but document management is legitimately an area where if we found it in scope to do Wikimedia projects, there are a huge number of off-wiki institutional partners that would support us in building infrastructure here.

I do not want to outright block projects without discussion. This is a great Wikimedia pilot project and linking a small test corpus across Wikisource / Commons / Wikidata / anything else would be very useful. Bluerasberry (talk) 14:59, 2 April 2026 (UTC)

Wikidata pilot would be super useful

I would really like to see a test set of these files in Wikidata. 1 single file would be useful if it could be made in an hour, 10 files would be nice for comparison, and if there were 100 Wikidata files, then I think we could start useful discussions about file management. I do not want to detract from the project or make a burden but with the amount of these files, Wikisource is not going to be able to sort them. Wikidata or a Wikibase instance is a way.

There is not going to be any Wikidata community problem with 100 Wikidata files or fewer - the problems arise for projects with 10,000-millions of files.

If I am not asking too much, could you please choose 1 file as a good example and make at least 1 Wikidata item and connect it?

Thanks - I have similar document collections and I have been wondering how to sort them. I am with d:Wikidata:WikiCite - we have about 40 million scientific articles in Wikidata right now which has been a process over 10 years.

This is the best I think a program can do without introducing human to the item creation: (Q138862706), from wikisource:zh:贺某某、哈某某等民间借贷纠纷民事二审民事判决书.
I also found this wikidata item Shanghai Songjiang District People's Court, Case No. (2024) Hu 0117 Min Chu 14727, Civil Judgment, 17 February 2025. (Q135677749) created by Truth4everbe which contains way more statements and English translations, but those additional statements are not possible to fill by the program.
