Use this page to suggest categorizations for domains.

Note, editors are empowered to directly edit our sources lists. Changes are reviewed before being deployed. This Suggestions page is for when feedback is desired for suggestions, or it's otherwise debatable or not completely clear whether a domain belongs within a category.

Note, the reliability categories (generally reliable, generally unreliable, etc.) are populated based on lists created through consensus, such as perennial and WikiProject source lists. We do not add domains to our reliability categories unless they are coming from an existing list.

Each domain categorization suggestion should be its own section, following roughly this format:

== example.com ==
Suggested categories: advocacy
Comment: This is a non-profit organization that advocates for xyz.

Librev.com

[edit]
  • URL: https://www.librev.com
  • Publisher/Journal: Liberal Review
  • Found on: en:Revival Process
  • Suggested categories: Unsure, see next line.

This is a site that offers a mixture of news, shorter opinions (often from SMEs seemingly), and long-form content. Kind of a Balkan "Atlantic". I think it leans towards a more reliable "opinion piece," but I am not certain. Perhaps advocacy would be more appropriate in a general sense given the strong bias of the page even if the factuality is also probably pretty high.

Pietrus1 (talk) 22:59, 7 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Done: added to Cite Unseen/sources/news/Europe#Bulgaria. We don't take political axis or biases into account when assigning "news" icon, which helped us sort out the categorization of a lot of sources.

Pietrus1 (talk) 00:01, 8 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Done: added to Cite Unseen/sources/news/Europe#Italy. Since it is an online newspaper (said from its English Wikipedia page), we can put it in the "news" category at least. Thank you!

Weird ones from Revival Process, help me categorize

[edit]

Here are the ones I am still uncertain about from the article:

Belene Island Foundation:

  • URL: beleneisland.org
  • Publisher/Journal: Belene Island Foundation
  • Found on: en:Revival Process
  • Suggested categories: Totally unsure

This is the website of the organization dedicated to maintaining the Belene Island Labor Camp. It was a notorious prison for political dissidents during the communist era. Is this advocacy? Press (it's not really a statement).

Bulgarian National Film Archive:

  • URL: bnf.bg
  • Publisher/Journal: Bulgarian National Film Archive
  • Found on: en:Revival Process
  • Suggested categories: Government?

There is a unified film archive organization which is funded by the Bulgarian government. Is this a government source?

Olympics official website:

  • URL: olympics.com
  • Publisher/Journal: International Olympic Committee
  • Found on: en:Revival Process
  • Suggested categories: Government?

This is the official site for the olympics. Is it a government source?

Pietrus1 (talk) 23:56, 8 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Yes, the first one is advocacy, and the last two are government sources. SuperGrey (talk) 01:04, 9 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Did I add them and the other Buglarian news sources correctly? Pietrus1 (talk) 01:04, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes, thank you! SuperGrey (talk) 09:29, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Alright. Does someone just run the bot that updates everything visually manually? I sidnt see it update like it did previously and thought I made a mistake.
Pietrus1 (talk) 18:19, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
See Cite Unseen#Adding categorizations: Cite Unseen's code references particular revision IDs for each sources list, so changes to the sources list do not immediately go live until reviewed and deployed by our maintainers. i.e. the changes only go live when one of our maintainers reviewed them. Normally this wouldn't take more than 48 hours because I'm very active recently. SuperGrey (talk) 20:33, 10 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

sigmaaldrich.com

[edit]

Website of a chemical manufacturer, one of the brands of Merck KGaA, used quite commonly on wikis such as de.wiki and pl.wiki. On the one hand, it is used as a source of information contained in the product catalogue, and on the other hand, it provides access to safety data sheets for substances. I am not sure whether any of the categories is appropriate here; the safety data sheets could fall under “books”, but the rest would not. Wostr (talk) 18:51, 14 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

I don't think it fits any category. That being said, a "generally reliable" icon could be useful?
What about adding this site to en:WP:NPPSG? After that, you can edit Cite Unseen/sources/enNPPSG/2 to align with the update. SuperGrey (talk) 17:57, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
There are currently some discussions on the Polish Wikipedia about creating a list of reliable/unreliable sources. It is possible that we will manage to create such a list, and in that case I will try to have it added to this tool. If that happens, I would add this website there as well. Wostr (talk) 18:02, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
That would be wonderful to hear!
By the way, I would recommend that if a new RSP is created for Polish Wikipedia, they might want to use the latest page-list format. See en:WP:RSP RFC 2025 for English Wikipedia's existing efforts (they are stuck in "conversion phase" currently), and zh:WP:RSP for a successful story (and good example) in Chinese Wikipedia.
