  • Hi. One of the perennial deep questions about Wikipedia gender gaps is how the gender gap in editor participation affects content, especially the gender gap in biographies. There are 13 Wikipedias with more than 500 biographies (https://whgi.wmflabs.org/gender-by-language). It would be interesting to see what the editor gender ratio is for each of these Wikipedias. The 2018 editor survey gave gender ratios by language groups rather than by individual language, e.g. it was reported that the Spanish and Portuguese Wikipedias combined had 5% women. Since each of these projects has more than 500 biographies, I would like to see what the gender ratios are for the Spanish Wikipedia and the Portuguese Wikipedia, separately from each other. Hello Clayoquot! In 2019, 11.7% of contributors to es.wikipedia who indicated their gender were women (total N=154 for es.wiki contributors who responded), and we didn't detect any statistically significant difference in the proportion of women between es.wiki contributors and contributors to other projects (chi-sq=0.002, p=0.963). 5.1% of contributors to pt.wikipedia who indicated their gender were women (total N=79 for pt.wiki contributors who responded), though we also didn't detect any statistically significant difference in the proportion of women between pt.wiki contributors and contributors to other projects (chi-sq=3.396, p=0.065). I hope this is helpful! Best, RMaung (WMF) (talk) 21:20, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks RMaung (WMF)! This is great to know, and it's also great to know that these numbers are not statistically significant. Do you have statistics for the other 12 Wikipedias with more than 500 biographies? These are:

English German Chinese Italian French Polish Russian Indonesian Arabic Ukrainian Japanese Clayoquot (talk) 21:45, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
