Hello Punjabi Wikimedians User Group,


Thank you for putting in your first general support fund. Congratulations on the 22nd year of Punjabi Wikipedia and for sharing the celebrations via a Diff post - https://diff.wikimedia.org/2023/06/01/punjabi-wikipedia21-celebrating-50000-articles-and-looking-ahead/

For documentation purposes, I am also including a list of grants (non-exhaustive) which were accessed by individuals who were/are connected with the User Group previously. Please feel free to add onto the list as necessary.


Observations/ Recommendations / Notes

Below, you will find the consolidated feedback and observations from the review team (i.e. SA regional funds committee and programme officer). Do take time to read and respond (i.e. provide more details) to the sharing(s) as necessary. Note: The review team may not have the same lived experience or understanding of the local context as you/your team. Hence, providing further insights will be very helpful in building on our collective wisdom and shared learnings.


  • 1) Related to question 8/ programs, approaches, strategies and challenges: Thank you for supplementing question 8 with a detailed plan. While this could be a starting point of a consolidated list of activities for the year, some areas that require further thinking about your annual planning process includes: a) More clarity on local context and the key issues you are looking to focus on/prioritise and why; b) Reflections from past learnings and adaptations for the new year; c) Stronger connection across strategy, activities/ programmes and budgeting.


  • 1a) Suggestion: We know it will take time to put together an annual planning process. We recommend adding it to your timeline and plan protected time to do this with your core team. Here are some resources that offer insights into a combination of strategic planning and annual planning process which you may find useful. Please feel free to adopt/ adapt the relevant parts that apply to your application.


  • 2b) As you plan to hire a coordinator for your project, could you share your plans for recruitment, reporting and management and onboarding process? Could you also share what are the key legal and mandatory duties of an employer in your country when hiring on contract? Based on the legal status in your country, are you able to hire a full-time staff? If not, we would recommend a contractor role.


  • 3) Related to question 11/ about your team: Thank you for listing down the core team and the projects that they will be leading. Given the team is deepening experience in many areas such as (but not limited to) event planning, project/grant management, partner outreach, awareness building etc what do you think would be the key areas where the learning curve is the steepest and what areas would you/the team need the most support in implementing the proposed activities? What type of support (do you think) would be most helpful? Are there existing networks of support that you can lean into, could you share more? How do you plan to capture learnings and know-how so that each volunteer doesn't start from scratch (as they step into each role), but builds on the knowledge/processes of their predecessors (i.e. the key question here is about knowledge management practices).


Note to applicant: During the review process, the SA Funds Committee meets 3-4 times (2-2.5 hours/ session) during the review cycle to discuss the grant applications submitted for the cycle. Thereafter additional time is dedicated for individual review (i.e. one review form is submitted for each application - estimated time spend can be about 1 hour/application/person). We would like to highlight that the review team spends a significant amount of time on each application reviewing and providing their perspectives. We hope you will also participate fully in the process by setting aside dedicated time and mind space to provide thoughtful responses to the feedback. During the discussion rounds, we have also captured the verbatim feedback below. Some of which may be on a similar topic. If you notice the trend, it would mean that the question/ observation was raised by several members of the review team and we encourage you to dig deeper to provide more information. If you require support in understanding the context to the feedback and/or in crafting a response. Please know that you can reach out the programme officer for support


  • 4) Feedback from the community on how the project impacted them (e.g. their work, skills or capacities) is collected/planned to be collected and built upon in the next strategy or program planning. - Needs more clarity. For example, how will feedback be collected and shared transparently?


  • 5) Valuable transferable methodologies, tactics, or strategies are applied (e.g. in a thematic area or in community revitalization). - Needs more clarity. It is also not clear as to how knowledge-transfer of the methodologies' / strategies will take place.


  • 6) Smaller on-wiki communities and user groups overlap each other, but it is important to keep their identities distinct. The grant application should be placed on the Punjabi Wikipedia village pump and other projects, and feedback and endorsement should be sought. The user group should try to document its discussions as much as possible on-wiki instead of in closed channels. The applicant should be open-minded to modify the proposal based on community feedback.


  • 7) It is hard to assess the feasibility of the proposed activities, as they are described in merely two sentences. A more itemized and detailed plan is needed for the budget proposal. For example, it is unclear how many people will attend the workshops, and what the expenses are for travel, venue, food, etc.


  • 8) The proposal itself acknowledges a leadership gap, though it is not a crisis. In this context, how the FTE will be managed requires a proper governance plan. How will the FTE be hired? Do you expect it to be someone from the user group itself? To whom will he/she report? What will his/her job description, role, and responsibilities be? Are there enough activities to necessitate an FTE? How will his/her performance be monitored and feedback for his/her learning and improvement be provided? Also, I have a feeling that the bulk of the expenditure is towards admin and event logistics, with only a fraction going towards the community via prizes for the contest. This could introduce tension in the community as volunteers may feel taken advantage of. The percentage of direct community support should be increased through community prizes and other means like offering laptops or other devices, internet expenditure reimbursement, etc.


  • 9) The oldest and first user group from India applying for an annual grant is a good sign of growth and maturity. Hiring an FTE could be a good decision if managed effectively.


  • 10) You can try to focus deeply on certain activities where you anticipate better outcomes. Implementing widespread activities with a single full-time equivalent (FTE) can be taxing on the community, as its size won't increase drastically and immediately. For example, you can focus on acquiring more books in the public domain and digitizing them on Wikisource. Aim to establish partnerships with higher education institutions, government agencies, and major GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) organizations rather than trying to run a year-long Wikipedia in Education program at the school level.


  • 11) Is the Punjabi Wikimedians User Group and the Punjabi Wikimedia on-wiki community one and the same? How will you attribute the general and organic on-wiki outcomes to the larger community activity as opposed to the user group's specific activities?

Thank you so much for sharing detailed feedback on our proposal and giving us the opportunity to reflect and make changes to our proposal and budget while clarifying our strategy and sharing our local context. While we have made changes to the detailed Annual Plan in English itself and have also created an Updated Budget sheet in the same Google sheet, I would like to respond to the questions here in Punjabi. Let me know if  you need any clarification on anything I am sharing here. Also, please share any follow-up questions that you might have.
I am sharing my responses to the above questions by mentioning just the question as 1a or 2b followed by my responses:
  • 1a) ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੰਬੇ ਅਰਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਇਕੋ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਦਿੱਕਤਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੂਝ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ੨੦੧੫ ਤੋਂ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ outreach activities ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਸਲਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਉੱਭਰ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਨਵੇਂ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਹਨ।
    • ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਤੋਂ ਏਦਾਂ ਹੀ ਚੱਲਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿੰਨੇ ਲੋਕ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ ਓਨੇ ਹੀ ਲੋਕ ਛੱਡ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਾਦਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਧਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਪਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਅਤੇ ਘੱਟ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਸੰਪਾਦਨ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਵੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਿੱਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
    • ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਾ ਹਾਲੇ ਤੱਕ ਪੰਜ ਵਿਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਉਹੀ ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਸਰਗਰਮ ਹਨ ਜਿਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਪਾਦਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਗਰੀ ਸੋਧ ਦਾ ਵੀ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡਾ ਮਸਲਾ ਹੈ। ਸੰਪਾਦਕ ਘੱਟ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟ ਜਾਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸੰਪਾਦਕਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਾਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਗਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਵਾਧਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਪਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ।
  • 1b) ਕੋਰੋਨਾ ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਵਿਕੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਗਿਣਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਰਗਰੀ ਦੋਨਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਿਆ ਸੀ, ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦੋ ਕੁ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਮਗਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਕਾਰਾਤਮਕ ਨਤੀਜੇ ਦੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਨ।
    • ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਵਧੇਰੀ ਵਾਰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਪਹਿਲਕਦੀਮੀਆਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਦੀ ਘਾਟ ਹੋਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਕਦੀ ਵੀ ਚੰਗੇ ਢੰਗ ਨਾਲ document ਜਾਂ wrap-up ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਪਾਏ ਹਾਂ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਹਿਮ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੈ। ਉਦਾਹਰਨ ਦੇ ਤੌਰ ’ਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਲੇਖ ਸੁਧਾਰ ਮੁਹਿੰਮ ਵਰਗੀਆਂ ਮੁਹਿੰਮਾਂ ਚਲਾਈਆਂ ਪਰ ਉਹ ਸਥਿਰ ਪਹਿਲਕਦਮੀਆਂ ਸਾਬਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ। ਹੁਣ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਸਥਿਰਤਾ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਲਈ ਹੋਰ ਨਵੀਂਆਂ ਰਣਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਘੜਨ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ।
    • ਵਿਕੀ ਵਿਚ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਕਿੰਨੀ ਜ਼ਰੁਰਤ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਅਸੀਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਜਾਣੂ ਹਾਂ ਪਰ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕਈ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ’ਤੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਆ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ। ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਬਨਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਗੋਸ਼ਟੀਆਂ ਵੀ ਕੀਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ੀਕਰਨ ਜਾਂ ਆਨ-ਵਿਕੀ ਵੀ ਲਿਖਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਪਰ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਦੀ ਵਧੇਰੀ ਸਮਝ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਹ ਕਦੀ ਵੀ ਮੁਮਕਿਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਪਾਇਆ। ਸਾਡੇ ਕੋਲ ਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖਿਅਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਰਣਨੀਤੀਆਂ, ਸਰਗਰਮੀਆਂ ਦੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਜ਼ਰੁਰਤ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ’ਤੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੰਮ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਬੈਠਕ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਖ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ’ਤੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।
  • 1c) ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੇ ਪਿਛਲੀਆਂ ਕੁਝ ਬੈਠਕਾਂ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਆਨਲਾਈਨ ਮੀਟਿੰਗਾਂ ਤੇ ਫ਼ਰਵਰੀ ੨੦੨੪ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਈ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੀ ਕਾਨਫਰੰਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕਈ ਰਣਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਘੜਨ ਤੇ ਸਰਗਰਮੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਯੋਜਿਤ ਕਰਨ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਰੱਖੇ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਨਵੇਂ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰਾਂ, ਨਵੀਂ ਸਮੱਗਰੀ, ਸਮੱਗਰੀ ਦੀ ਗੁਣਵਤਾ, ਮੀਡੀਆ ਕਵਰੇਜ, ਸੰਚਾਰ-ਹੁਨਰ, ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ੀ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਆਦਿ ’ਤੇ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੰਡ ਕੇ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।
    • ਇਸ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਿਤ ਮੈਟਰਿਕਸ, ਰਣਨੀਤੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਬਜਟ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਂ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਕਈ ਸਵਾਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਝਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਵਿਸਤਾਰਪੂਰਵਕ ਯੋਜਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਦੇਖ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਂ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਫੀਡਬੈਕ ਮਿਲਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਅਪਡੇਟ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਅਪਡੇਟ ਕੀਤੇ ਟੈਕਸਟ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਮਾਰਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਸਾਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਸਕੋ।
  • 2a) ਅਸੀਂ ਬਜਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਲੋੜੀਂਦੀ ਤਬਦੀਲੀ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ।
  • 2b) ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਅਨਜ਼ ਯੂਜ਼ਰ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਇਹ ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇਗਾ। ਕੋਆਰਡੀਨੇਟਰ ਚੁਣਨ, ਉਸਦੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟਿੰਗ, ਤੇ ਮੈਨੇਜਟਮੈਂਟ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਮੁੱਖ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਤਿੰਨ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਆਂ (Charan Gill, Gaurav jhammat, Nitesh Gill) ਦੀ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ। ਬਾਕੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨਾਲ਼ ਸਲਾਹ ਮਸ਼ਵਰਾ ਵੀ ਉਹੀ ਕਰਨਗੇ। ਸਾਡੇ ਮੁਤਾਬਕ ਕੰਟਰੈਕਟਰ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਬਿਹਤਰ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਕੋਈ ਰਜਿਸਟਰਡ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਾਂ। ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਮੁਲਾਜ਼ਮ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਜਿਹੜਾ ਕਿ cis-a2k ਦੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਨਾਲ਼ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸਦੀ ਭਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਵਾਰ ਵੀ cis-a2k ਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਦਦ ਲੈਣ ਦਾ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਹਾਡਾ ਇਸ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਸੁਝਾਅ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਵੀ ਭੇਜ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ। ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ resources ’ਤੇ ਵੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਝਾਤੀ ਮਾਰੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਲਾਹੇਵੰਦ ਹੋਣਗੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤਾਂ ਮੁਤਾਬਿਕ ਤਿਆਰ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ।
  • 2c) ਅਸੀਂ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿੱਚ ਇਸਦਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਰੱਖਾਂਗੇ। ਹੁਣ ਵੀ ਅਸੀਂ ਬਜਟ ਨੂੰ ਤੋੜ ਕੇ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਜਟ ਦੀਆਂ ਲੋੜਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਥੋੜਾ ਸਮਝਾਉਣ ਵਿਚ ਮਦਦ ਕਰ ਸਕੀਏ।

  • 11) ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਆ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰੋਜੈਕਟ ਵੀ ਬਾਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਲਈ open ਹਨ ਮਤਲਬ ਇਸ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦੋਂ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਨਵਾਂ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਆ ਪ੍ਰਜੈਕਟਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਅਨਜ਼ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਅਨਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੇ ਇਸਦੀਆਂ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਾਲ਼ੀਆਂ ਗਤੀਵਿਧੀਆਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹੋਣ ਦਾ ਸੱਦਾ ਵੀ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਅਨਜ਼ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਆ ਤੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ।
    • ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਵਿਕੀਮੀਡੀਅਨਜ਼ ਦਾ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਧੀਵਧ ਰੂਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਕਸ਼ਾਪਾਂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਤੇ ਲੀਡਰਸ਼ਿਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਾਧਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ਾਂ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ। ਆਨ-ਵਿਕੀ ਨਵੇਂ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰ ਲਿਆਉਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਯੂਜ਼ਰ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਕਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਵਰਗੇ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰ ਆਪ ਮੁਹਾਰੇ ਵੀ ਇਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣ ਨੂੰ ਯੂਜ਼ਰ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਇੱਕ ਨਵਾਂ ਵਰਤੋਂਕਾਰ ਲਿਆਉਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ ਪਰ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ਼ ਯੂਜ਼ਰ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਨੇ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਕੀਤਾ ਤੇ ਮੈਂ ਹੁਣ ਯੂਜ਼ਰ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਦਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਹੈ। ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਂ ਆਫਲਾਈਨ ਬੈਠਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਇਆ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮਦਦ ਨਾਲ਼ ਹੁਣ ਮੈਂ ਐਡਮਿਨ ਵਜੋਂ ਕਾਰਜਸ਼ੀਲ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਵਿਕੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਯੂਜ਼ਰ ਗਰੁੱਪ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਿੱਠ ਉੱਤੇ ਥਾਪੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਦੇ ਸਕਦਾ, ਪਰ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਆਫਲਾਈਨ ਬੈਠਕਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਕਰਵਾਉਣਾ ਤੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ਵਿੱਚ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਸਿਹਰਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਇਹਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਿਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

The previous phase was supported by Wikimedia UK and the User Group would like to take this project forward. This also means that you will require a top up to your existing request of about 6500 GBP. You also mentioned that Wikimedia UK will help in implementing the project and disbursing budget.

While we registered your intention, we will require more information about the above. Please also include a short project write-up of this initiative and share more about your role/Wikimedia UK's role in the proposed plans.

Thank you for this question Jacqueline. I'm replying from Wikimedia UK, summarising discussions we've had with the Punjabi Wikimedians about this project.
As noted, Wikimedia UK has been supporting Punjabi Wikimedians usergroup in delivering the Amarjit Chandan project, so far allowing for 495 images to be uploaded and re-used across a few dozen language projects.This collection is an interesting record of Amarjit’s life, as well as a great illustration of Punjabis in East Africa and the UK - hence the interest of both affiliates in doing this work.
The aim now is to complete the project by digitising the remainder of the collection, by having Amarjit sort through and digitise the rest, with Punjabi Wikimedians providing the work uploading and distributing these images among projects. Additionally, on the ground, in-person support for Amarjit would be available.
There are two UK cost elements of the project - digitization and working directly with Amarjit on Metadata, and the scanner itself.
Aside from it fitting perfectly with our strategic commitment to Knowledge Equity, we are present here in the UK and able to directly support the project in-person and add capacity via staff involvement.

Thank you for your responses to the follow-ups questions.

Congratulations! Your grant application has been approved in the amount of INR 2,307,700 from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2025.


Here are some comments from the review team that were captured from the final deliberation round

  • 12) I wonder if the current list of activities across multiple Wikimedia projects can drain the small community and the only FTE. Perhaps the User Group can use this year as a pilot and try it out and do a retrospective 6 months into the implementation year to assess capacity to implement. If needed, perhaps consider dropping lower priority activities like the Education program in a school. Would suggest also encouraging a culture of discussing and deciding on-wiki to avoid the reliance of physical meetings.
  • 13) The Punjabi Wikimedia user group is reliable and earnest. They have a good number of qualified mentors to steer them well. They should be given a chance to scale now.
  • 14) The proposed plan seems OK for a pilot year as this is their first general support grant application. Yet, there is definitely still potential to make the annual plan even stronger.
