Follow-Up on Harvest Templates Tool Request

[edit]

Hello @Prototyperspective,

We’ve received your request and are currently reviewing it. We’re also checking internally to identify who might be best positioned to evaluate the technical side and explore potential next steps.

We’ll keep you updated once we have more clarity. Appreciate you documenting the tool’s current status and the specific issues — this is very helpful.

Hello again,
Thank you for submitting this wish and for providing detailed background and examples.
We reviewed your request internally. Since the Harvest Templates tool is a community-maintained project, it falls outside the scope of what our teams (including WMDE) are currently able to take over or maintain. Of course, if a community member is interested in continuing its development, they are more than welcome to do so, and existing resources like the CC0-licensed code can help support that work.
Thank you again for your thoughtful contribution and for raising this important point about improving data consistency between Wikipedia and Wikidata!

@Prototyperspective @Pppery actually, do you know about the @putnik's infobox export gadget? I think it's more recent. Well very well (talk) 07:26, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
This gadget is quite different from the Harvest Templates Tool. Firstly, it parses HTML instead of source text. Secondly, it does not support the mass processing of pages. This is technically possible, but many people do not check what they export, even on one page, so I just don't want to automate a tool that has many heuristics, unlike the very straightforward Harvest Templates. — putnik 12:10, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
