thanks
[edit]Hey @GPSLeo thank you for sharing this wish. Is the primary concern the volume of emails and notifications from a moderator perspective? If this is the key problem you'd like to solve, I am curious what other solutions you've considered exploring? JWheeler-WMF (talk) 15:46, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- The problem I want to solve is that I have one mail address for automated notifications that I do not want to use for regular communication. But currently if I send a Wikimail to someone they see and respond to this mail address. The purpose for this is also that such mails are often more important than the notifications and I want to set different notification rules on my device. GPSLeo (talk) 13:53, 2 August 2024 (UTC)
OSM does it better
[edit]OpenStreetMap allows using one email address for logging in and a completely separate one for communication. It is a significant improvement in cyber security because even if malicious actors hack into some admin's correspondence email address, they will not be able to access the admin account itself. Response to the wish
[edit]@GPSLeo Thank you for your wish! The team responsible for this is focused on other priorities and they don't see this as fulfillable based on the direction of the team. To read about what the team is focused on, see the Product & Technology OKRs. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 15:28, 27 November 2025 (UTC)
- Is there any reason for why only one email can/should be entered? Don't see why this was declined albeit few websites have the option to enter multiple mail addresses and this is probably only something that WMF employees could implement, not volunteers. Prototyperspective (talk) 00:02, 9 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Prototyperspective the team evaluated the wish and considered that there isn't too many community requests for the option, plus there are other priorities at the moment that take precedence. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 14:19, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
- I don't understand this rationale at all. As far as I understand it's in direct contradiction to the whole point of the Community Wishlist, as other users have noted too, and you may just as well try to close it down, requiring the community to set up a separate wishlist.
- Wishes could also be implemented by volunteers and secondly, wishes (&votes on them) are also meant to be an input to priorities.
- If there's other priorities then that's not a reason to decline but to set it to Community opportunity. And I don't even think this is a good wish and think maybe it would be reasonable to archive it as there could be a good reason to do so, but what you said certainly isn't that, even if I probably partly misunderstood it. Declining because WMF internal official teams have other priorities is not a reason to decline. Prototyperspective (talk) 16:03, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Prototyperspective I'll see if we can reclassify it as a community opportunity, though I'm not sure I can be successful. I'll do my best. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 16:36, 15 December 2025 (UTC)
