What specific technical change are you requesting here

The first part of this (adding a search box) requires no new software development - it could be done today (given sufficient community consensus) via an edit to c:MediaWiki:Subjectpageheader.

• This is about a problem and a broad goal (search boxes in Commons categories); some even say/said things should be structured problem-oriented, and not solution oriented, and that things would benefit from being less specific.
• No, it could not be done today due to the technical issues described in the wish. I'm not asking for an input box to be displayed in Commons categories, but a search box which implies or requires the search functionality to work and in this wish it is explained what technical change is needed to achieve that or at least that this is currently not possible.
• A functional search box for Commons categories is the goal; how it's achieved is deliberately not specified and it doesn't matter to me how it is; "In Commons category deepcategory view mode (wall of images), allow easily filtering offtopic subcats" wouldn't be the only specific technical change required or good toward this end and also by that title, users don't see that it's (also) about enabling a search box for Commons categories.
