Purpose

hi @Vasyatka1. You propose a new functionality to show the difference of a change in bytes. Can you clarify what the purpose of this new functionality would be ? Good day!

It's only referential purpose. As you know during article editing as for now have three options (and 3 buttons): "Publish changes", "Show preview" and "Show changes". Last option is also unclear for me and in my usual practice I never use it. But if it is exists I do believe that some users may find this function useful.

From my perspective indication of the weight of change prior publication may be more useful. For example, in Russian wiki we have a limit for recommended articles in amount of 40 KB. And in case of implementation of my proposal I will know how far the limit is even on the stage of editing.

I have no idea how many other users would need this information, I'm not a sociologist, I just reacted on invitation to share my thoughts and ideas in Community Wishlist. Vasyatka1 (talk) 19:45, 1 August 2024 (UTC)

@Vasyatka1 and TheDJ: Is this about showing the byte size of the changes (as is currently shown in the history page, for instance), or the total page size in bytes while previewing? There seems to be some slight differences between the Russian and English translations of the wish. SWilson (WMF) (talk) 10:38, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
