Discussion for W147: Search user contributions proposed by Vasyatka1 (talk)

What is a contribution

[edit]

@Vasyatka1 can you expand on what you think a contribution is ? 1. Would you want to search in all the pages that you ever edited (at any point in history) 2. Or just searching your very own edits, so the specific text you removed/added 3. Would you expect this to work for all pages, just content, or just talk/discussion pages ? Where do you need it the most ? —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 09:31, 31 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Vasyatka1
Thank you for your wish!
While reviewing this with the team, we were unsure about some important details to understand the feasibility of the wish:
This would require a large expensive index to support. What are the other use cases we may be overlooking? MikeZ-WMF (talk) 11:38, 27 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

There are two ways to search one's or another user's contributions: using the existing filters on the contributions page like the tags and the date range filter and the edit summary search.

Additionally, please see this code issue: phab:T188125 Make it possible to search by page author /contributor/ uploader. Prototyperspective (talk) 17:35, 1 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
