I think this would be useful. The filter could simply set -deepcategory:"AI-generated images" (or videos depending on the selected filetype). And for that only phab:T369808 would need to be implemented which is very much needed for several other key features, applications and functionalities.

Moreover, one reason why I support this is that it could be extended to likewise filter out NSFW images from the results such as porn images or generally nude people which could be implemented e.g. via -deepcategory:"Nude people". This cat contains most such images and any files not yet included there could be added which e.g. makes the search results more workplace-& child-friendly, useful and less distractive/unexpected.

I'd like to note that AI images are often some of the most useful and at times the only images available for some concepts and the default for the search should be that all images are shown, no matter which technique or tools have been used to produce them. AI images aren't crowding out stuff on WMC and aren't a problem there and certainly not flooding the site but sometimes it could be good to exclude them. Theoretically one could extend these filters with custom ones and a customizable manner so one can easily exclude various types of files such as files in "…in art" subcategories when searching for a search term if one was only interested in e.g. representative photos of some subject. Thanks @The wub for sharing this wish and to @Prototyperspective for the comment. What other sorts of image filters would you perhaps want to see in MediaSearch? JWheeler-WMF (talk) 18:44, 23 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't have any filter ideas other than AI at the moment. One challenge is getting reliable tagging, at least with AI-generated images they are still fairly new and we're now requiring tagging of them in UploadWizard. the wub "?!" 20:02, 24 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
I know of three more (next to AI media, nude people media, and {subject} in art media): here somebody asked for a way to exclude images of people, a filter that excludes all NSFL files (like war photos of dead people) would be useful for some of the same reasons as the NSFW filter, and it could also be useful to exclude things like book scans. One could configure some default filter and one could enable several filters at once. Prototyperspective (talk) 17:41, 27 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Thank You
