[edit]@BotBln I'm pretty sure that internet archivebot can do this automatically. I believe many projects have chosen to opt out of this process, because they find the bot gets it wrong enough that the projects rather process the changes manually. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 14:53, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
- Isn't what it does automatic linking of the archived version of the website, not searching for the online/live new place of the site? @BotBln: I think automatic linking of the archived version of the website would be far easier for bots to do and may already getting done. It would be good to check whether it's being done and if so whether DEWP has opted out of it like they did for other useful tech tools so that volunteers have more mundane tasks that take their time. Maybe the bot needs some improvement so it works more reliably such as checking whether the website contents are plausibly what was originally there or likely just some domain placeholder stuff for example. It could be that currently it checks which time the link was added and then adds the archived version of the site closest to that date. In any case, it needs better clarification whether you mean something that adds the new live link vs the archived version (or both per case?). Prototyperspective (talk) 17:29, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- @BotBln per de:Wikipedia:Meinungsbilder/Boteinsatz bei toten Links ist dem de:User:InternetArchiveBot nur erlaubt, auf defekte Links hinzuweisen, nicht aber, sie selbstständig zu ersetzen. Siehe auch de:Benutzer:InternetArchiveBot#Funktionen des InternetArchiveBots im Detail. Es bräuchte die Zustimmung der dewiki-Community in einem Meinungsbild, um die Konfiguration zu ändern, damit der Bot in dewiki selbstständig kaputte Links ersetzt, aber die technische Möglichkeit besteht bereits.
- Per dewiki RfC InternetArchiveBot isn't allowed to replace broken links, but that's a community issue, not a technical one, dewiki could always decide to initiate another RfC to change the bot's configuration. Johannes Richter (WMDE) (talk) 12:14, 6 January 2026 (UTC)
