Unlikely for now
[edit]Hey @OliwierJaszczyszyn - this is an interesting idea, however I think there may be some sociotechnical hurdles to pass for a deeper Fediverse<>Wikimedia integration. For example, Wikimedia has a longstanding policy for edits to be made anonymously. Additionally, Fediverse is still a relatively novel concept, and I think we'd want to see a more widely-adopted product.
Nevertheless, it's a valid concept, however it requires far more community input and momentum to take any action at this time. JWheeler-WMF (talk) 21:28, 16 December 2024 (UTC)
- Hey, first and foremost I apologise for necroposting (the original comment I am responding to right now was made on 16.12.2024). I'd like to raise the fediverse:creator meta tag issue once again, as I think that Wikimedia-owned sites would be in my opinion a *great* boost factor for the Fediverse, and thus for the open web solutions at all.
- As I mentioned, this wish was specifically made for Wikinews due to its "news-portal-ish" character. Of course no fediverse:creator meta tag would be applied for any anonymous edits; that wasn't inside the scope of my feature request. This meta tag would be applied only when 1. someone is registered, and 2. when someone explicitly tells Wikinews about their Fediverse profile handle. OliwierJaszczyszyn (talk) 19:41, 2 May 2025 (UTC)
