It took me a while to understand this wish, but I think I finally grasp it.

Examples are drafts where drafters are forbidden from adding categories as they populate the area only articles are meant to be listed. In this drafts example the user places categories as:

  • [[:Category:White Wolf game designers]] (note the colon)

When I worked on an article in my sandbox I wrapped the categories in html comments to stop them messing up the normal cat pages like:

  • <!--[[Category:White Wolf game designers]]-->

I am unsure how much of a burden this is for template coders.

The point of this wish is to add a constraint to category pages. I imagine a way to view the full, unconstrained category listing would be desirable too. Commander Keane (talk) 10:10, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

This is another case in which the "problem-led" instruction has failed us. I doubt you'd have had as hard a time if you'd read the original wish with a proposed solution. Nardog (talk) 11:01, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes now I feel foolish, if I had seen the previous wish request with its extensive duscussion I wouldn't have needed to post here. Maybe put the link in the wish description? Not to mention I recognise many of the names of the supporters, no need to question a wish when experts have vetted it for you. I still like my workaround examples though, they clearly demonstrate the current messy struggle with the system. Commander Keane (talk) 11:23, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
How often does content from the "wrong" namespace bleed into a category? I could see how it's useful for protecting categories and helping people review only relevant content. I'm not sure how often people run into the issue, which would inform the level of impact solving this wish has... 41 voters isn't insignificant... I'm sure any new page reviewer can attest to that (see also the 2023 one). But also we wouldn't know it fully precisely because templates have been coded so it doesn't happen; the proposal is to reduce that complexity. Nardog (talk) 23:27, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
