Thanks!
[edit]Hey @SD0001 thanks for sharing this wish. I could see how templatized and better SVG support could help volunteers create better graphics and such. Based on the Phab task you shared, it looks like there's been some considerable development and prototyping thus far.
Are there specific gaps or blockers you're encountering, or a need from WMF? JWheeler-WMF (talk) 16:27, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! Although a patch has been written by @Nux, the blocker is that it has not received any WMF comments so far. Since MediaWiki tends to be very conservative about introducing new parser tags (because of their need to be supported as valid wikitext forever), it might need broader review. I just wanted to log this as a "wish" for visibility. It indeed doesn't require development work. SD0001 (talk) 16:30, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
Benefits of / reasons for this?
[edit]What is the need or benefit(s) of what's requested here? Maybe these could be briefly explained in the wish or here. I don't find it clear – what's the issue with having separate SVGs or embedding an SVG instead of writing SVG code (which can be long and complex) into the wikitext?
