Sounds essential

[edit]

Thanks for the wish @Femke, I came across it randomly when looking at all the undiscussed wishes in a report I made. It is more of a bug, but I guess a feature request at the same time. I support the wish, to be honest I wasn't aware of the problem but at least I won't be pulling my hair out next time the reuse references section fails me. Response to the wish

[edit]

@Femke Thank you for your wish! The team responsible for this is focused on other priorities and they don't see this as fulfillable based on the direction of the team. To read about what the team is focused on, see the Product & Technology OKRs. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 15:33, 27 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello Sannita (WMF). I've argued elsewhere that it doesn't make sense to reject wishes based on one year's WMF priorities, and that the wishlist instead should inform the next iteration of priorities. But here, the wish does align with the ORKs of delivering trustworthy content, given that citations form the basis of delivering that content. Reusing citations is a key workflow for those working in Visual Editor. You now often see people either update the infobox or update the main text, but not both because it's a pain. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 13:28, 1 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Sannita (WMF): I'm still hoping for this decision to be reverted. How can this wish inform next year's OKRs if voting is turned off? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 21:15, 6 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Femke FWIW, I think this problem will be taken care of by other measures that an another team is working on at the moment. So, while I get the disappointment about the decision, it might get done in another way. I'll see to it, anyway. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 14:01, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
That's even better news than a reversal of the decline. What work are you referring to? If it's being solved, it cannot be 'contrary to strategic priorities' by definition, right? —Femke 🐦 (talk) 14:07, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Yes and no, it is outside of the Annual Plan, but it will be solved. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 16:37, 8 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
