Courtesy ping and acknowledging that I reused the text of OdMishehu from phabricator and Camouflaged Mirage from a previous wishlist. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 21:06, 17 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Barkeep49 thank you for this idea. I’ve reached out to @MusikAnimal (WMF) who has more insight into the Multiblocks project, which enables customization and layering of blocks. We’re looking into whether some of the issues raised in this wish can be addressed through this feature once it’s implemented. After that, we can assess what remains to be resolved. –– STei (WMF) (talk) 19:25, 20 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Barkeep49, it appears Multiblocks does not cover effectively your request. CommTech has taken note of your submission, thank you. STei (WMF) (talk) 07:49, 22 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have successfully implemented/coded this wish, I can confirm that it is now functional (I can successfully reverse-partial-block a user to a certain page, and they may only edit that page and their talk page, same with a namespace or a mix of pages and namespaces) and I have submitted a patch to gerrit. There are some minor finishing touches that I need to get around to before the patch gets merged, like prettier log entries, but overall the core functionality of this wish is working and will hopefully arrive in the next release of MediaWiki. :) MolecularPilot (talk) 08:37, 23 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have completed finishing touches now and all tests are passing. I've also spun up a Patch Demo Instance which allows anyone to try out the new features. To login as an admin to preview the new interface for Special:Block and Special:BlockList (and experiment with issuing reverse partial blocks) use the username "Patch Demo" and the password "patchdemo1". If you want to preview what it's like to be a reverse partial blocked user, login as "Mallory" (they can only edit "ArbCom/Cases/Mallory"), with the same password. We are now just awaiting +2 code review from someone on the WMF T&S team, and then the feature will be live the following Thursday. You can track the progress of the review here. :) MolecularPilot (talk) 05:46, 24 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@MolecularPilot thank you for getting this done. Colleagues in the Trust and Safety Product have expressed an interest in reviewing the patch. I will get back to you. –– STei (WMF) (talk) 19:31, 24 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you so much for your work on the wishlist and helping route this patch to the appropriate team!! :) MolecularPilot (talk) 01:03, 25 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
@MolecularPilot and STei (WMF): Is this live on some sister projects? That last comment is almost a year old. As an admin on Commons, I don't think I've seen this. (Please ping me if replying, I don't maintain a watchlist on meta.) - Jmabel (talk) 07:43, 5 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Jmabel, this isn't live anywhere, I think it dropped off everyone's radars sorry! I'll rebase the patch now (a coding thing needed so that it is compatible with the latest code in MediaWiki) and modify it so it doesn't need a schema change (resolving the current blocker on gerrit). MolecularPilot (talk) 08:56, 5 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
Jmabel I've rebased it now, and also fixed something called a "schema change" so it doesn't require it anymore (which was a previous blocker). Now it's just pending review by a maintainer/WMF staff, which will probably happen sometime in the new year. MolecularPilot (talk) 09:37, 21 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Jmabel, @Sannita (WMF) will be able to tell you more about this. –– STei (WMF) (talk) 11:13, 12 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
FYI for folks following - it seems this is still in progress, but there are open dependencies. I'll check with the team on the timeline. MikeZ-WMF (talk) 11:44, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
It's blocked on wider community consultation needed, I believe. See comments on https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/core/+/1113723 & https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T240311 MolecularPilot (talk) 12:46, 11 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ah thanks for pointing this out!
@Barkeep49 are you able to help as the original reporter by sharing your perspective?
To get more community consultation and diverse opinions, we could have a call to action in our next monthly update - it would be a few weeks away since we just posted one this week (Community Wishlist/Updates). MikeZ-WMF (talk) 10:22, 10 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
