Talk:Documentation:Configuration

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The first paragraph says, "The settings inside DefaultSettings.php will reset and override the individual values of LocalSettings.php." Isn't the opposite true?

Yes, and it was written like that in the following paragraph. I tried to clean up a bit. --Katya 15:01, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mixed language text[edit]

There is an addition of some non-English text to the English text at the end of the General Considerations section.

Link[edit]

The link "Instructions on MediaWiki localization#Updating messages/changing language" doesn't works. I'm looking for one page about how to change the language...

How are you supposed to edit these config files?[edit]

After using content management systems like Joomla and WordPress, I expect the software to be configurable through the web interface. I've yet to read confirmation of this, but I believe MediaWiki is not edited through the web interface but rather by connecting to the server file system and editing the LocalSettings.php file using a text editor. Is this the case? If so, this and "parent pages" in the administration/configuration guide should be updated to reflect this fact and give some basic instructions on how to do so. (Otherwise, the URL of the web configuration pages should be included.)
