Talk:Edit Wikipedia Week

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

The first question, raised by Christophe on internal-l, is the date. Do people think the week of December 3 will work? We (provisionally tentatively) picked it because it seemed to offer enough time to get events organized, without pushing too far into the Christmas/holiday season, which would discourage participation. So - does the week of December 3 make sense? Sue Gardner 03:23, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. I think that either we set one date, or we don't. There's always going to be people who are not happy with one date, or who are going to find millions of reasons why the date is not good. However sensible those reasons, we need to start somewhere, and I think we should just stick with that date. It's a first try, we need to gather ideas and see what works and what does not. Next year will be better, the next even better. notafish }<';> 14:16, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Posters[edit]

Hi all! I'm leaving this message for everyone involved and those interested in helping, to contact me for your local translations (fr, de, ja, ko, etc, etc) to be added on the promotional posters, in order to be avaiable for everyone in their native language. This is just an idea, in case you are not too experienced with design and if you want something similar to the one used in English, for your local event. Thanks! --Mushii 18:53, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is a new version of the poster including: a) space for anyone to promote their own activities for the day b) minor grammar mistakes. (thanks Cormaggio, Stevenfruitsmaak and Jussenadv for the feedback!). Anything else you consider very important to change, before I change all the versions I've done so far, mark for speedy delete in commons and upload the new ones? --Mushii 00:17, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's good! The only change I would suggest would be to make the 'when where and what' space slightly bigger - there is still a bit of blank space on the poster, and the globe could be made smaller. It's just to allow for full event details, and perhaps people with big writing. :-) But no big deal... Cormaggio @ 11:22, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I believe that if I resize the wikiglobe and give it more space, the whole design will be stuffed with text and nobody will pay attention to it. So, I won't change that, sorry. It's a matter of design concept in order to attract attention to the possible reader. ^^; --Mushii 23:46, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A4 versions[edit]

I decided to delete the A4 versions because it was a waste of space in Commons. I tried copying the high-res version into an A4 doc in MSWord for printing and it can be read perfectly fine. ^^ --Mushii 00:33, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Organizing info: Meta vs. Local Wikis[edit]

Hi,

we should decide soon where we put the information about EWW: on Meta, on the local Wikipedias, or both. My proposal would be:

  • Put promotional materials and general info on Meta, as well as links to all the local Wikipedia pages;
  • Put information about specific events on the language Wikipedias where they might be of interest.

Then we could redirect edit.wikipedia.org to the page on the local Wikipedia that matches the browser's language preference.

Thoughts?--Eloquence 15:48, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
