Comment on AfroCuration event held at ConHill in Johannesburg on 5 October 2019[edit]

Firstly, I'd like to thank the organisers of this AfroCuration event and for inviting me. I think it is a great idea to encourage school kids to contribute to Wikipedia. However, I think that some of the school kids' language competency might not be up to acceptable standards. I'm basing this on the information I gathered from the table I was at. The young ones were struggling to understand the basic words such as follows: however, furthermore, wife, bishop, Anglican father, etc. I had to explain the meaning of these words to them. These are not even concepts or difficult terms. As a results, I think that some of the contributions made to Wikipedia on this event would have been of poor quality. I think perhaps for such future events, if school kids are invited to contribute, there should be university students or other senior language practitioners to work with each group of school kids across different indigenous languages just to assist with comprehension and conceptualisation.
