Thank you for this report

[edit]

Thank you for this timely and complete report. We greatly appreciate your improvements to the section on ‘GROWTH’ and your financial report was easy to understand. We see you are identifying key challenges and sharing strategies to address them, and we look forward to the results. We also hope your learning will benefit others in the movement. We recognize you include information about many topics we expressed interest in after reading your Q1 report, and we thank you for responding so attentively to our questions.

We encourage all entities to also read the staff summary of this quarter’s progress reports in addition to these comments.

Cheers, KLove (WMF) (talk) 03:07, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Appreciation

[edit]
  • Congratulations to WMAT on hiring Thomas! It is exciting to learn you have found a staffing solution that works well for you.
  • Congratulations on your successful Landtagsprojekt, and especially your success dividing tasks among staff and volunteers, which we know is a great challenge.
  • We appreciate your work on the ‘’Good Governance Kodex’’ and note you are actively seeking your community’s input. We look forward to the results of the discussions at your General Assembly.
  • We like your observation around partnerships that “timing is quite important for successful cooperations and that quite often a ‘dormant phase’ is followed by very productive collaboration once the institution is ‘ready’ for us.”
  • Thank you for sharing the specific ways you are working with other chapters and how you are both mentoring and being supported by other entities. For example, we see that you are learning from other chapters in the area of governance and is collaborating with other entities on programs like Wiki Loves Public Art. We continue to see this type of collaboration in the region as one of WMAT’s strengths.
  • Thank you for sharing the successes and challenges you are facing and the lessons you are learning. We hope sharing like this will benefit other entities.

Congratulations! KLove (WMF) (talk) 03:07, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

We would like to learn more

[edit]

Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions about this report. KLove (WMF) (talk) 03:07, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

  1. Thank you for sharing the new articles, files and images WMAT has supported through its activities. How do you measure the quality of this new content or track how it is used on the Wikimedia projects?
At the moment, we do not measure the quality of each single file. We know most of our community-members personally and therefor have experienced how high-quality their files normally are. Additionally we trust in the quality-measuring-processes of the Wikimedia Commons Community (e.g. Quality images and Featured pictures, which can be found in special categorys) --Thomas Planinger (talk) 07:28, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Thomas for your response. It's great to know how you are thinking about these issues. KLove (WMF) (talk) 16:43, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
  2. Please share more information about your book grants program and how it is used by volunteers. We know many entities have run programs like this with mixed results, and so are interested in learning about what makes your program successful. For example, how do you get the word out to your volunteers about this program?
We already recognised, that our book grants program is not working as well as for example the German one does. This is most likely resulted by the fact that our community consists of a large amount of photographers. Nonetheless we share the information about our book grant program and the possibility to get books from there on all major supporting-sites (like de:Wikipedia:Literaturstipendium and our main supporting-portal on our members-wiki). As the book grants program is a very mature program of Wikimedia Österreich we do not see the need to get in touch with our community proactively - most of them would already know about it. Those who already received a book from the book grants program have to report about the contents they contributed to a Wikimedia project with this book. --Thomas Planinger (talk) 07:28, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Again, thanks Thomas! KLove (WMF) (talk) 16:43, 17 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions for future reports

[edit]
  • We are interested in learning more about your strategies for working with your volunteers to develop skills around and interest in reporting on activities as they develop. We appreciate the way you are thinking about this now and hope some of the lessons you learn may also benefit others in the movement.
  • Congratulations on securing about 65 new contributors through the Wiki Loves Public Art contest. Are you considering tracking the contributions of those users that contributed content through this contest over time? We encourage you to do so, or to consider measuring this when evaluating the outcomes of similar activities in the future.

Thank you for taking these suggestions into account. KLove (WMF) (talk) 03:07, 9 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
