Talk:Fundraising 2009/Tech Info Page

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

This page is for discussion and feedback for initial test of the credit card processing page: http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/DonateCC/Now/en.

We know that the anonymous check boxes are not working perfectly, but we expect that the fields should work correctly, you should receive a thank you email, and your name/message should appear on the http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Special:ContributionHistory/en page.

A $1 contribution is all you need. Rand Montoya 02:50, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Everything processed fine for me a few minutes ago. I got the email immediately. Only hitch was ContributionHistory showed as anonymous though I left "Please show my name" checked. Looks great, by the way! Stu 04:01, 6 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, there's an extra '< /div >' visible at the bottom of http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Special:ContributionHistory/en.
  • This is now fixed. Due to the wackyness of addWikiText the extra divs were getting double escaped.
Yay, Rand! Worked fine, looks great. My only problem was, like Stu, I showed up as Anonymous despite leaving the "show my name" box checked. (My previous donation, not-anonymized, was through PayPal.) A couple of quick comments from a usability perspective:
  • The old donate page offered a radio button for the "write-in amount" option: this one doesn't. I would add it back, otherwise the user may worry they are inadvertently donating $30 (the default).
  • Our new page at Support Wikipedia now has the consistent radion button.
  • On the thank-you page, you might want to change the language of this sentence: "If your company supports corporate matching gifts, you can double your donation," to support a more active link. Like maybe, Find out how to double your donation by having your company match it.

My comments:

    • looks messy - text fields aren't aligned, and are different sizes
    • lacks familiar "red asterisk means required field" (are all required? none?) -- I see there is javascript? validation when you press the button, but visual cues are nice
    • maybe have some reassuring "your CC details are safe with us" message before the CC section?
    • "Security code" field lacks explanation of what this is (maybe everyone knows now, but most donation forms still seem to explain it or link to an explanation)
    • "Donation amount:2.00" is at the top of the form and "This donation is being made in AUD" is at the end. Would make sense to have them together.
    • I don't know how important this is but with forms like this I always wonder if the address details are being correlated with my CC details or they're just for your records. Might be good to know... why do you need my mail address?
    • formatting of this page is super strange :)
  • Email receipt
    • I got it, but it seems strange for a letter to be a receipt. Normally I would except a thank you letter and a PDF receipt, or at least part of the email to be formatted in columns/table to look more like a traditional receipt.

In addition to the above replies: Please list my name (next to my comment) on the public donor list. was definitely checked, but donor list shows Anonymous. --Avatar 06:07, 6 November 2009 (UTC) --- Everything worked fine, but the email took about an hour before I got it.--Pavel Richter 20:49, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Failing for me[edit]
