Installing Skins

Maybe I'm dumb, but it strikes me that not all of these skins (e.g. Fratman) require a simple update of monobook.css. How can I offer another skin as an option on the User Preferences menu? I've spent hours trying to figure this out, but can't find a straightforward explanation anywhere. Can someone offer a simple step by step? I'm using 1.5. I'm not fluent in php, but I'm ok at hacking through things. Thanks.

Answer: I would FTP to your server and rename the monobook folder and any other php files that will be overwritten by the new set of files you want to "install". Then upload the new files to the appropriate folders and subfolders. You may have to browse around the FTP folders until you find the location of the folders and/or files that need changing

Links on upload server

Links on the upload server are not working for the screenshots. Is that normal ?

How one can create his own skin?

Answer please.

One can't create his or her own skin, if one doesn't have a username! So create one. Then go to User:USERNAME/monobook.css (or whatever your preferences is directed to) and add your css there for the page. But be careful, because if you screw up the wikipedia interface you'll have to go back and rv your own edits. If you are using Mozilla Firefox press shift then click the refresh button, and the changes should take affect. But you must have a username. 24.171.106.250 02:54, 20 February 2006 (UTC) (Kinneyboy90) (not signed in)

French Wikipedia Monobook.css

I like the monobook.css of http://fr.wikipedia.org ( http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:monobook.css ), I think you should add it to the list. 212.235.36.207 13:05, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

Cleaning up the page?

It urks me that there are a few themes listed here that don't have links to download the files for them. I think they should be removed from the page. It says right at the head of the page that links need to be included. -Jackie

Answer: Umm.. so remove them. This is a wiki after all. Why are you telling someone else to do it?

HELP

hello, I don't know if I am in the good topic, but could you tell me how can I do to apply a custom stylesheet into my wiki. Thanks

Showcase looks horrible

Are'nt people able to add a simple {{clear}} below their entry? I cleaned this up a bit, but some parts are still quite messed up.

Toykilla's Heavy Makeover

Does anyone still have the original shown in the screenshot? That looks WAY better than the current one!

Now THAT's what I'm talking about!

Using Mediawiki for a corporate site

Well, I have a crazy idea which consists of using Mediawiki for a corporate site. My idea is to hide the sidebar menu for external users and to enable it only for admins. On the other side, I want to use templates as navigational menus. A random visitor will have the impression that he is visting a vanilla site, not a Wiki. Has someone already done this please ? is it possible with the current available tools or do I need to do some PHP hacking ? thanks for any help--Khalid hassani 16:00, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Reponding to myself, well it seems that I can do it in the 1.5 by just modifying the sidebar, I need to find a way now to lock the pages and hide the edit links.--Khalid hassani 16:38, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Add the following to LocalSettings.php:
$wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false;
$wgGroupPermissions['user']['edit'] = false;
$wgGroupPermissions['sysop']['edit'] = true;

You'll probably have to modify your default skin to remove the edit links. 158.135.133.13 19:08, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Hiding the Page name/title

On the main page of wikipedia the 'main page' is not displaed at the top allowing more room for banners etc. This also improves the aesthetic of the page. Can anyone please let me know how it is done? TIA

Adding MediaWiki to a live, fully-functional site with a finished layout

All the pages of my large website follow a templated design look that already takes care of logo placement, navigation, etc. It is only in the center area of the screen where a div tag displays dynamic data and, when needed, tabs.

Would it be possible to install WikiMedia on my site so that the look follows my current design? I don't mind giving full credit where credit is due, but to insert the wiki the way it's designed here in my site is just too much of a leap away from the rest of the pages. My readers may actually think they've already LEFT my site.

Answer: Use an iFrame

Use templates/transclusion

It would be great if all the themes on here were saved as "Gallery of user styles/«theme_name»" and then transcluded into this page as templates, so that each theme page could have its own discussion in addition to the discussion on this page. I've gone ahead and done that with nullbook (hope Samat doesn't mind), but I thought I'd leave it up to the rest of the theme developers if they want to do it here. -- jacobolus 07:37, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Confused about Monobook original in Wiki

I am confused. On w:de:Vorlage:Infobox Computer- und Videospiel take a look into the source. There is a class called "hintergrundfarbe6" but in no one of the CSS you can find it. Where is this var saved? --84.58.238.143 12:03, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

It's defined in w:de:MediaWiki:Common.css. —[admin] Pathoschild 18:28, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
