Romani languages[edit]

User:Bojan Cvetanović, are there any participants who can write in any of the Romani languages? There's always need in writing Wikipedia articles in these languages: There's an Vlax Romani Wikipedia domain, and a Carpathian Romani Wikipedia Incubator. @Amire80: If we talk about participants from Serbia, I'm afraid not. I am aware that the main problem is the standardization of the Romani language. I received information that one group from Slovakia will participate by writing articles on Carpathian Romani Wikipedia (or Northern Central Romani as they call it). I hope that organizers in other countries managed to reach the Roma people who would be willing to edit on one of the mentioned Wikipedias.--Bojan Cvetanović (talk) 07:45, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the response, Bojan Cvetanović! I saw that in Slovakia they have government documents and textbooks in Carpathian Romani, and it makes sense to me to use the same standard as in these documents and books to write also in the Carpathian Romani Wikipedia, but they should figure our what's right for them :)

I'd also love to draw these people's attention to the fact that both articles and software localization are needed, and arguably, the localization is both easier and more useful at this point. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:51, 2 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

There's also the Finnish Kaalo incubator project, but afaik no one is going to be participating by writing articles in that language. By the way, Swedish government agencies produce a sizeable amount of material in Lovari, Arli, and Kalderash and a smaller amount in Finnish Kaalo and could perhaps be partners in future edit-a-thons. -Yupik (talk) 05:59, 4 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Yupik for the info. I also contacted Wikimedia Sverige before the edit-a-thon. They didn't have a capacity for participating this year specifically, but they definitely want to take part futurewise and they have a strong desire to strengthen the Romani language Wikipedias.--Bojan Cvetanović (talk) 09:42, 5 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
