Talk:Learning patterns/International events? Allow three months for visa formalities

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

This needs work[edit]

This needs work. "We" is who? Clearly someone within the EU, we suddenly find.

It would be better if it addressed the issue of visas more generally and more deeply, without the EU assumption. Perhaps the organisers of several past WM conferences could be contacted for input (on this page?) – especially WMDE and the appropriate WMF staff. Tony (talk) 10:19, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Tony1: 'We' is our organising team for the workshop described here: Grants:PEG/Pgallert/Indigenous knowledge for Wikipedia workshop, with only two EU nationals. I thought that the whole point of the learning pattern is that EU nationals might not think how difficult international travel can be. I remember I once forgot to apply for a visa to Egypt. After quite a few discussions I got it right at Cairo International... had I produced a passport from Mongolia or Peru, they'd probably have deported me right away. Alas, all improvements are of course welcome. --Pgallert (talk) 08:55, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Pgallert:—ok, I wonder whether the LP here could be clearer about that. The title, for example, indicates a general readership from all countries, I guess assuming that advice will be provided for everyone. Tony (talk) 10:55, 28 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
