Every time I mention I'm going to Manchester for a meetup, I get told that the Briton's protection would be an ideal place to have it. It's an alternative to the Sir Ralph, wonder if anyone had any thoughts on the matter (linky to the worst website I've seen in a while) WormTT 15:50, 25 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Definitely a nice pub. It's been rather crowded whenever I've been, but we might not have that problem at 1 pm. Yaris678 (talk) 13:14, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

WiFi

[edit]

The Sir Ralph supposedly has WiFi but it's never been working at any WikiMeet I've had there. I suspect that they just hadn't turned it on.

I don't suppose Hengistmate could speak to the owner about it?

Yaris678 (talk) 13:14, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

They're both decent boozers. I don't mind either way. Sorry couldn't be there last time.

I'll have a word with Mike and/or George asap and get back to you.

Chin chin. Hengistmate (talk) 13:47, 28 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Diary clash

[edit]

Wikimedia UK have decided to have a strategy workshop on the 23rd of March, the same day as this wikimeet. Any thoughts? Should we move the wikimeet?

Since Bazonka set it up and promptly said he couldn't make it, only you and I have signed up so far Yaris. I'm flexible on the date, and it's early enough that we can do something about it, so let's move it. WormTT 10:37, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Shall we move it to the 30th of March?
I could also do the 6th of April. Or maybe a Sunday??! (31st of March or 7th of April.)
Let's not do the 13th of April cos that clashes with wmuk:EGM 2013.
Yaris678 (talk) 13:23, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, happy to change the date. 30th March is right in the middle of Easter weekend - I don't know whether that's good or bad though. 6 April also works for me. Perhaps we can discuss in Liverpool tomorrow. Bazonka (talk) 18:05, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yep. We can discuss it today in Liverpool. See you soon! Yaris678 (talk) 09:28, 16 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Just noting that this change reflects the discusion in Liverpool. See you in Manchester in April! Yaris678 (talk) 10:28, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Actually, there are two reasons not to do it on April the 6th, which I can now check because I am not in a pub:
  1. (The selfish reason) I will be busy and in Newcastle
  2. It's the day of the Manchester derby. 3 pm at Old Trafford. At least that was when it was originally going to be. It has been officially moved to Monday the 8th but that might get dropped if United get a Champions League game later in the week. So actually we don't know. Fickle football.
You could go for it anyway. It may not get moved back and I don't think The Britons Protection is particularly a football pub. Anyone with more knowledge of football able to comment on these things?
Alternatives:
  • 16th March (Man United vs Reading at Old Trafford, should raise much less passion than the derby)
  • 30th March (The day before Easter Sunday. Man City vs Newcastle at the Etihad, should raise less passion than the derby.)
I suggest we avoid the 13th of April cos its WMUK:EGM 2013.
Obviously I won't be able to go on the 6th of April but if you guys want to go for it then that's fine with me.
Yaris678 (talk) 16:09, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
N.B. The Madrid Match is on the 5th of March. After that we should know for sure when the derby is being played. Yaris678 (talk) 16:31, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well, I can't make the 6th of April, I'll try and come along if it's a different date. Don't base it on me though! WormTT 14:22, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
So that's two of the three people who thought that the 6th was a good idea can't do the 6th now. Great work guys. However, if the date stays it should still be doable by Bazonka, Deskana and JamesBWatson. And it hasn't been advertised in a geonotice yet. So unless any of them say they can't do the 6th I say we go with that. Yaris678 (talk) 17:01, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm reluctant to change the date a second time. I'll be there unless there's a death in the family. Even a quiet Wikimeet is better than no Wikimeet at all. Bazonka (talk) 21:40, 25 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Coolio. 6th of April it it. Yaris678 (talk) 13:00, 26 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Time

[edit]

Any thoughts? Would make it easier to plan around - is 12pm the normal kick off time? Katherine Bavage (WMUK) (talk) 15:34, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

1 pm is the usual time. But see the date issue above. Yaris678 (talk) 16:09, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
