Talk:Movement Strategy and Governance/Newsletter
Add topicThe New Direction for the Newsletter
[edit]The Movement Strategy and Governance Newsletter (MSG Newsletter) is setup to distribute relevant news and events about the Movement Charter, Universal Code of Conduct, Movement Strategy Implementation grants, Board elections and other relevant topics. It serves as a pathway to help Wikimedians stay involved with the different projects and activities going on within the Movement Strategy and Governance team.
The team is designing new direction for this newsletter to allow adequate quality control and sustainability, as well as, to ensure an effective communication approach to the diverse and global Wikimedia community. We want you to help us shape the extent of the delivery and frequency of these Newsletters and Updates. Our initial proposal is to deliver the traditional full newsletter every quarter across all community portals on all projects due to its low frequency, while short updates on our processes are delivered weekly to MSG Newsletter Subscribers in order to prevent any gaps in communication. However, we still want to know the preference of the community to make final decisions. Kindly leave your comments and votes under the two sections below:

Discussions
[edit]- If I wanted to follow a specific discussion closely enough to warrant a weekly newsletter, I might as well watchlist the relevant page myself or subscribe to the relevant threads. An up-to-date central directory of such ongoing discussions would be useful though (what is being discussed where?). And please keep it all short and concise. --HHill (talk) 18:01, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
Update
[edit]@HHill, Patafisik, and PutriAmalia1991: thank you for comments above, and apologize for a significant time gap since we last posted on this talkpage :) Your input was valuable, and I'm glad to update you that the following arrangement is in place for MSG Newsletter and MS Weekly:
- MSG Newsletter is delivered widely to community channels every quarter, with a new structure since issue 7 based on the Movement Strategy recommendations;
- MS Weekly is updated every Thursday and sent monthly to its subscribers.
Thank you for your support and enthusiasm for this project, and we look forward to continue serving you the updates on the works regarding Wikimedia Movement Strategy implementation. Best, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 11:06, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
Notice of discontinuation of the MSG Newsletter
[edit]Dear MSG Newsletter subscribers,
On behalf of the team, we would like to update you with the decision to discontinue the publication of this newsletter. Major factors behind this decision was the recent consolidation and reorganization of the Wikimedia Foundation's community-facing teams, which impacted the MSG team as a whole. We would like to thank you for subscribing to this newsletter; it has been a great pleasure to keep you informed about the development of our Movement Strategy.
We would like to invite you to consider subscribing to the monthly Movement Charter Drafting Committee newsletter, which will deliver the updates regarding the MCDC to your talk page.
Best regards, RamzyM (WMF) (talk) 14:24, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
