Kanuri, a Wiki that never had its chance[edit]

I need to ask why Kanuri Wikipedia was closed. This was but a young wiki, struggling to turn into a full-developed wiki. It was at its sleeping stage, where a wiki is static and unable to function. The admin hadn't arrived yet, and it had become "asleep", so it couldn't do a thing. And let's see the admin's surprise when he arrives to the wiki and sees a label saying that it's closed. And don't just say stuff like "Too bad, that happens to a lot of wikis." This is the first wiki to be closed by voting. Other wikis had a reason, like fictional languages and moving away. This one just was sleeping. Why does this have to happen to an innocent website? 72.35.34.145 20:37, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I have no idea, whom you mean by "the admin", which "hasn't arrived yet". Any Kanuri speakers are welcome to re-open it, whenever they wish. It is present state, the Wiki was merely a target for spambots and vandals. The closure has been discussed for about six months. During this period, no potential contributors have turned up. Frankly, I can't see a reason to complain. --Johannes Rohr 21:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Late comments removed from discussion[edit]

The following comments were made 1, 2, and 5 years after the discussion was closed, so I'm moving them here. - dcljr (talk) 03:55, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Oppose closing kr.wikipedia
  1. Oppose Oppose dormant wikis are harmless, one wiki should be permanently deleted only if the users are destroying it. just give it more time, maybe kanuri speakers just don't know the existence of this. Greek Fellows 12:23, 12 February 2012 (UTC+8)
  2. Oppose Oppose I don't think that this wiki should be closed, if users will work, this wiki won't die, on this wiki are 122 activeusers, on ro.wn are only 7 and this wiki survives, this affixes that the problem of hz.wp is work and if the users from hz.wp will work, this wiki will survive. The first thing who users from this wiki should do is to elect an administrator and then create articles.—Bourgetalk 16:59, 25 August 2009 (UTC)
  3. Oppose Oppose I certainly don't agree with this Wikipedia being closed. It's a ludicrous idea. Even if it takes a long time for anyone to get involved and do something, it can't harm anyone while here. Let's keep it. Bonzostar 18:12, 11 September 2009 (UTC)
Neutral regarding closing of Kr. Wikipedia
  1. Neutral Though it does sadden me to see Wikipedia contribute to language extinction policies.--ImageMonth 12:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
