Talk:Requests for comment/Global banners
Question[edit]
Can we put a global banner up to announce this global banner discussion? Killiondude 03:35, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
- The irony would be sweet. I recommend that we put it up on our userpages, though. w:User:Tisane/Support Tisane 03:43, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
facepalm[edit]
When I first read this, I thought it was a proposal to introduce a new flag: "People who will globally ban users"... and I need to share my idiot-moment here. LOL Seb az86556 18:39, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- If it makes you feel any better: you're not alone with this misunderstanding as evidenced through anecdotes as well as posts on the mailing list. sebmol ? 18:53, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Wow. When this was written, the idea was preposterous. Now it isn't. --Abd 14:30, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
What is a "global banner"?[edit]
It would be nice if "global banner" were actually defined. A banner can be targeted to any combination of the following:
- one or more languages
- one or more project types
- one or more countries
- one or more user type (anonymous, logged in, admins)
Does "global banner" mean simply "displayed to everyone, no matter what"? Kaldari 05:45, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
- I think this RFC pre-dates some of that functionality (such as geotargetting) being part of CentralNotice. (You would probably know more about this than me.) What constitutes a "global banner" definitely now needs further clarification, given the developments to CentralNotice. In the meantime, I think we should have a moratorium on new (CentralNotice) banners until a sane process and procedure can be developed and implemented. --MZMcBride 05:55, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

How about some closes?[edit]
There are discussions on the attached page that have been open a long time and that have clear consensus. How about some closes? I'll do it if nobody else does. Normally, since I've commented with a position, I wouldn't. But there are exceptions to that rule. --Abd 14:32, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hm, it's been quite a while, and the foundation is still putting up global banners without consensus... --Yair rand 05:33, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
