Talk:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Crimean Tatar 2

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Localization[edit]

Congratulations and thank you to the Crimean Tatar community; the Crimean Tatar Wikipedia is only one step away from creation. Before the wiki can be created, we need to translate the main interface messages. This page will serve as a place for centralized discussion and coordination, while the actual translation will be on the BetaWiki (see BetaWiki instructions and a full list of Crimean Tatar interface messages). If you have any problems, comments, suggestions, or questions, feel free to post below and we will be sure they are addressed.

While it would be even better to translate the entire interface, some of it isn't very important and can be translated later. If you see any messages you think don't need to be translated, feel free to mention them here.

The following messages don't need translation before final approval (although you are free to translate them anyway). The * symbol followed by a number means that several messages beginning with that are unneeded. For example, unlock* (6) means that six messages with names starting with "unlock" (unlockdb, unlockdbtext, unlockconfirm, unlockbtn, unlockdbsuccesssub, and unlockdbsuccesstext) are unneeded.

  • common* (2)
  • edittools
  • exif-* (273)
  • export* (7)
  • feed* (2)
  • import* (27)
  • lock* (8)
  • mainpagedocfooter
  • mainpagetext
  • metadata* (6)
  • monobook* (2)
  • pagetitle
  • unlock* (6)

I can't emphasize this enough: if you have any problems, comments, suggestions, or questions, feel free to post below and we will be sure they are addressed. There's no reason for anyone to be confused or uncertain if we can help it. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 03:57:09, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh, that's great!
If you see any messages you think don't need to be translated, feel free to mention them here.
I think, that it is not so very necessary to translate messages that are visible for admins only. I suppose all future admins know Russian or Turkish as their second or even first language, so there is no need of immedeate translation of these messages. Don Alessandro 12:43, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine; although translating the administrator interface is preferable, it's not absolutely required. —{admin} Pathoschild 01:40:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Editing permission[edit]

When I try to edit interface messages (e.g. here) I see:

This page provides interface text for the software, and is locked to prevent abuse.

This page has been locked to prevent editing.

You can view and copy the source of this page:

Whether I am to ask for some special rights to edit these messages? Don Alessandro 20:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You need to get 'translator' access (see the instructions). You can do this yourself, or simply tell me the usernames of any translators and I'll have edit access assigned to them. —{admin} Pathoschild 01:40:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Editing the PHP file[edit]

For some of our users it is much more comfortable to translate the php file itself without using Nike Wiki (because it can be done offline). Some messages have already been translated so. How can we integrate this offline translations with Nike Wiki? Don Alessandro 20:12, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, you'll need to merge the translations manually. This means either copying the PHP translations into the wiki interface, or copying the wiki translations into the PHP file. —{admin} Pathoschild 01:40:11, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Pathoschild's resignation[edit]

Please note that I have resigned from the subcommittee. Although I will still answer any questions you may have and help as much as possible, I will no longer do so as an official representative. To contact the subcommittee, please post a message to Talk:Language subcommittee. Thanks. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 01:32:13, 01 May 2007 (UTC)

NB[edit]

For the subcometee members: lack of activity here and on the incubator does not means, that development of our project has stopped. We are now translating the interface messages (we've simply decided to do it offline, without using Nike Wiki). I think a significant part will be translated by the end of May. Don Alessandro 19:01, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've not yet seen any activity on this. Do you have something to show? – Nikerabbit 15:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
About 1/4 of the interface messages are translated now. Don Alessandro 07:11, 18 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
