Talk:Single User Login finalisation announcement/Archives/2015-07

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Please keep my global account under my name

I want to keep my username (User:C on the english wiki).

The only other account with my name is an indefinitely blocked user on the Vietnamese wiki, who is unlikely to edit again.

https://vi.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:C

Thanks. --C~ptwiki (talk) 00:17, 23 March 2015 (UTC) (User:C)

@C~ptwiki: I would recommend that you read the instructions and make a request at the usurp section. Note that you will have to leave a message at the other users talk page on Vietnamese Wikipedia asking to usurp their account name. The request will then be postponed for a short while to (theoretically) give the other user time to respond, because although they are blocked on Vietnamese Wikipedia, they can still edit other wikis e.g. Meta. In the meantime there is nothing to stop you using your renamed account to make edits as usual. Green Giant (talk) 12:12, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Auto-merge renamed one of my accounts erroneously

I got the notification “MediaWiki message delivery left a message on your talk page” and when I visited my page on wiktionary, it had already been renamed https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/User_talk:Ohnobinki%7Eenwiktionary . So I went to Special:MergeAccount and it said it had found some accounts. Then I went to log into wiktionary. It went through the meta login and created a new “Ohnobinki” account for me there. Please delete the new wiktionary account and merge the Ohnobinki~enwiktionary back with my account. Also, how many tildes am I supposed to use—or is that automatic nowadays? Ohnobinki (talk) 14:01, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

@Ohnobinki: the solution is to ask the stewards to merge your accounts but the account merging tool is not yet available, although it will be soon. I would recommend that you read the instructions and make a request at the merge section. Note that you will have to sign the request with both accounts. The request will then be put into a waiting pool until the merge tool is activated. In the meantime there is nothing to stop you using either account as long as you know the password. To answer your question about signing, 3, 4, or 5 tildes but I tend to use four. If and when Flow is finalised, it should be possible to automatically sign comments without tildes. You changed my name because of another user, but the other user is ME!

You have changed my name Peapeam on no.wikipedia.org (to now be used across platforms as Peapeam~nowiki). Peapeam WAS the exact same name as I have used on en.wikipedia.org - only they were two different accounts, with different passwords (because that was required when I registered). For some odd reason, you seem to be under the impression that the accounts belonged to two different people, BUT THAT IS WRONG! Both are MINE! I really would like that you change my username back to the original (edit Peapeam~nowiki back to Peapeam), so that I can continue using ONE user name, not having to deal with two (or having to have a new one which makes no sense, don't like it) and do whatever needs to be done so I can use that name across all Wikipedia platforms (Merge them to one Peapeam account)? I know that of course I could just go to the original name, which still exists, but that is not a good solution, as I guess I would loose access to all the content that is in the other account, won't I? So that is not a solution, you will have to fix this, won't you? The only option you gave in your message, was to change name, but I really do not want to do that, as there is no good reason for doing it. I do have a perfect user name, just two accounts with the same name (one of which you have now changed the name of). Can't you please correct the Peapeam~nowiki back to it's original name and merge the two accounts?

Thanks in advance for helping! :)

@Peapeam~nowiki: the change was implemented automatically and would have been based on the separate passwords. The solution is to ask the stewards to merge your accounts but the account merging tool is not yet available, but it will be soon. I would recommend that you read the instructions and make a request at the merge section. Note that you will have to sign the request with both accounts. The request will then be put into a waiting pool until the merge tool is activated. In the meantime there is nothing to stop you using the original account as long as you know the password. WMF account renaming of accounts in different projects by SAME user

It can happen that the global user "Example" had accounts with the name "Example" in dozens of different projects.

And then the account is renamed in all but one. 91.9.113.155 11:27, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
