Digitizing existing printed texts[edit]

In your focus on oral culture you seem to have missed a step: handwritten texts. Old manuscripts in small (and even extinct) languages do exist outside Europe and they are in urgent need of digitizing. See for a recent example: Lutz Mükke: Das Geheimnis des Sultanats von Zinder.
