Tidy[edit]

Johan (WMF), FYI that User:CAnanian (WMF) and User:SSastry (WMF) will want to add an item about this (mostly a call to arms for mw:Parsing/Replacing_Tidy/FAQ#What_will_editors_need_to_do.3F). We can use this space as usual to draft something - I'll check back later in case someone beats me at this. Thanks all! --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 11:19, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Duly noted. User:CAnanian (WMF), User:SSastry (WMF), User:Elitre (WMF) – would be great if we could have this by Wednesday, so there's time for you to check on potential simplifications I might want to make to the text. (: /Johan (WMF) (talk) 12:21, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
How about this? Tidy will be replaced latest by June 2018, possibly sooner. This requires editors to fix pages that might break. Please see simplified instructions for editors. SSastry (WMF) (talk) 15:49, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
"<translate>We will not use Tidy on Wikimedia wikis in the future. It will be replaced by June 2018. It could be earlier. Editors will need to fix pages that could break. You can read the simplified instructions for editors.</translate>" Something like that? /Johan (WMF) (talk) 10:48, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, works for me. SSastry (WMF) (talk) 17:51, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Off topic[edit]

Hi. If the maximum is next June, is there any minimum? Thanks, IKhitron (talk) 12:18, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No, it all depends on how page fixups go and whether it goes smoothly or we run into obstacles. If it goes smoothly, it will happen sooner. If we encounter obstacles, we'll have to delay. SSastry (WMF) (talk) 16:10, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sure you will not wait for all 902 wiki projects emptying the high preferenced errors, because it can take years. So I'm asking, because I don't want the deployment before our wiki fixed them all. IKhitron (talk)
Agreed about waiting for all projects. We actually plan to actively monitor rendering difference metrics by comparing output on 10s of thousands of pages sampled across lots of wikis. We'll use that as one of the factors in deciding. So, if your wiki hasn't fixed issues, it will show up in that tracking. Besides the high-priority areas, we may discover a few other things to fix. So, unless things go really smoothly, we don't expect this to happen in the next 6 months. SSastry (WMF) (talk) 16:31, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Thank you. IKhitron (talk) 16:32, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Badges[edit]

Note that the chosen example (Wiktionary entry about Berlin) might create confusion among editors. The default sidebar system is not likely to show links to Wiktionary entries since they are not allowed in Wikidata, yet. (Some wikis may still use JavaScript hacks to customise it but I don't think they will be able to show the badges either.) Matěj Suchánek (talk) 19:10, 9 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENTCONTENTLANGUAGE[edit]

Could you please not add 'CURRENTCONTENTLANGUAGE' to Tech News in the future? This causes an otherwise English-language text to incorporate text in a different language, which makes the whole thing appear messy. Thanks. Woodcutterty (talk) 15:17, 10 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
