I'm reaching out to you on behalf of the organization team of itWikiCon Catania 2025. We would be delighted to have you taking part in the conference, and in particular in the Battiato guided tour that we organize ahead of the event.
As you certainly know, Battiato grew up in the Catania region, and many places honor his presence and his influence on the Italian music. In particular, the city of Riposto (CT, formerly Ionia), where he was born and raised.
We found a tour guide who's a total nerd expert of Franco Battiato and who will be delighted to bring you to a tour of the places where he lived and where traces of his history are preserved (murales, pictures, etc.) Our guide is able to explain, with most details, the connection between certain places or landscapes and quotes of the maestro's songs. I am positive that you will love it.
The guided tour will take place a few days before the conference, during the week of activities we planned for participants to travel to Sicily in order to get inspired by the island before jumping into Wikimedians discussions. It is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4th, from 14:00 to 19:00, with a starting point at Catania Centrale station.
We hope that you will be able to plan your trip to Catania around this date in order to be able to join the tour. I shall also mention that the upcoming days will include other exciting activities, such as a walk on the Etna and visits of monuments in Catania. Alternatively, you could also use this time to organize a pilgrimage trip to the village of Milo (CT), where the maestro spent the final part of his life, and where a commemorative statue was recently installed.
It goes without saying that the itWikiCon conference will include a karaoke night on Friday 7th, to which you are expected to participate and bring to live the memories of Battiato by singing in choir some of his masterpieces.
The registration for the itWikiCon Catania 2025 will open in a few days, on September 9th, and while registering for the event you will have the opportunity to book your spot for the Battiato tour and other joyful events. The registration link will be posted on the Meta page and on various channels.
