Talk:Wiki Loves Africa 2016/Nigeria

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hello

I understand that what you called "edit-a-thon" in your proposal is actually "upload sessions". Is that correct ? If so, could you please fix the language for clarity ?

No, our "edit-a-thon" is not an "upload sessions". Since, this project is a contest the contestants are expected to personally upload their own work. While we, the community will use the "edit-a-thon" as a means of using some of the contents uploaded during this contest to improve articles on en. and yo. Wikipedia. Can you confirm that the timeline of all events are during WLA proper (that there are no post event writing edit-a-thon planned) ?

Only our "edit-a-thon" will be a post WLA event. It is expected to take place three months after the event to give room for collations. Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 22:55, 16 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Shola, this sounds like a good plan. Only problem is that we cannot wait 3 months after the end of the competition for your receipts from this to come in. Please can you plan something for February instead. The images per country are automatically collated. So this shouldn't be a problem. Islahaddow (talk) 11:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Also... I would appreciate if the final budget breakdown proposed at the end of the page would indicate the categories as stated there. Check out other countries to see how to do that (first column, mention the category). Thanks

Done Olaniyan Olushola (talk) Thanks

Of course, we will have to address the fact that the budget we have available is between 800-1000 dollars whilst your proposition is at 1800 dollars. Maybe we can get the diff covered by GI. But if not, you need to plan on what will be cut down. Anthere (talk)

@ user:Olaniyan Olushola Additional note after looking at all propositions... your expectation (550 images) is one of the lowest (though your budget is the highest and Nigeria is a big and more connected country than others). I think you should increase your expectations :) Anthere (talk) +1 Islahaddow (talk) 11:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Anthere:,thank you for this information. We have increased our measure of success by 38%.Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 06:38, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Olaniyan Olushola: also, please can you explain why the merchandising is so small - I remember the t-shirts alone costing quite a bit more in previous projects? Islahaddow (talk) 11:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Islahaddow:,thank you for this information. The cost for t-shirt is a bit low in this project because we have decided to go for lower quality due to small budget allocation. Thanks Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 07:20, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Side note: edit-a-thon should not be too late as it will create issues collecting receipts (April would be definitly too late) Anthere (talk)

Per your suggestion, our edit-a-thon will now take place two months after the contest.Olaniyan Olushola (talk) 22:17, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
