#SheSaid drive on bcl Wikiquote incubator[edit]
Hello everyone,
I would just want to ask if it's possible to join this campaign even if our local Wikiquote is still in its incubator status. This will be of very big help for us since we're not only developing the status of the local Wikiquote but also doing contributions for this movement. Thank you very much! Yes, thank you. It is true ! It is not a bug, it is a feature. This was to outline that those women actually did not have a picture on Commons... They need pictures :) Anthere (talk)

Hello. We'll host a new SheSaid in October 2021 ! I hope you are still keen to participate this year !
There is something new this year. Several women will host events in their countries to present Wikiquote and host edit-a-thon as part of SheSaid (and more generally to reflect on the gender gap of course). You may already know some of them, whilst others are new comers and will benefit from your warm and friendly collective support.
Some submitted some rapid grant requests and if you think their proposals are good and you want to support the development of wiki activities in their countries, please drop by the grant request and add your support; This would be much appreciated. The list :
- Grants:Project/Rapid/ChabbieCee/She Said

- Grants:Project/Rapid/Sichelesile/SheSaid
- Grants:Project/Rapid/Ola/SudanSheSaid

Permission to add results from BCL and TL Wikiquote[edit]
Hi Anthere, this is just to ask permission if we can also add from the list the primary results of the edits we had on both BCL and TL Wikiquote which are currently on incubator. We will be manually counting the created articles since the #SheSaidPH2021 we used on hashtag tracker generate no results. Our campaign will end by this month but we would be happy to share the initial results of our local campaign here. Thank you very much.Kunokuno (talk) 11:59, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
- Absolutely ! Just go forward. Please do. I was going to ask you ! I know the hashtag tool does not work (bummer). So yes, it is more complicated. So please yes, we do need you to report the PH2021 figures ! Anthere (talk) @Kunokuno:

News from the hashtag tool[edit]
Some of you know that the hashtag tool has stopped working at some point and this is making our lives a bit more complicated for tracking.
I reported the issue on Phabricator and got some news !
Sorry for the delay in looking into this - the tool isn't officially maintained and I missed this. It looks like the last data we have is September 30th.
I'm trying to fix this today; the problem appears to be an SSL error in the collection script container - it can't connect to the eventstream. Suspect this has to do with us using an old VM so I'm going to aim to hit two birds with one stone and upgrade production to Debian Stretch.
Once this gets up and running again we'll be able to collect historical data from up to 30 days ago, but unfortunately will have lost anything between then and September 30th.

Results 2021 ![edit]
Hello friends !
The SheSaid drive is over ! All results may be found here.
For 2021, nine different language communities contributed – Italian, Ukrainian, English, Tagalog, Igbo, Spanish, French, Central Bikol, and Catalan. In addition to the global drive, 12 members of Wiki Loves Women’s Focus Group held local training and participation drives with their communities.
Across the 9 language Wikiquotes a collective of 1,514 articles were created. This ensures that 1,514 notable women whose voices and wisdom had previously not been featured, can now be easily accessed. Articles for a further 309 women were improved. In addition, 638 articles featuring notable women were created on Kinyarwanda Wikipedia (Wikipediya mu Kinyarwanda) by the activities of the Wiki Loves Women Focus Group member in Rwanda in collaboration with Wikimedia Rwanda Usergroup.
The Italian language community through the enthusiasm of the Wiki Donne user group was again the most outstanding contributor to the SheSaid Campaign. This community created articles about 609 women and improved a further 227 articles. The next prolific contender, the Tagalog language community (currently in incubator status) created 308 new articles. The third highest contributing language community was to the EnglishUkrainian language Wikiquote by creating 169 articles and improving a further 55 articles.
Below are the stats impact for the SheSaid Campaign across 9 different languages that participated in 2021;
- SheSaid on the italian wikiquote: 609 new articles, 227 improved articles 🎉.
- Tagalog Wikquote: 308 new articles (currently in incubator status)
- SheSaid on the Ukrainian Wikiquote: 169 new articles, 55 improved articles
- SheSaid on the English wikiquote: 157 articles created and 18 improved.
- SheSaid on the Central Bikol Wikquote: 138 new articles (currently in incubator status)
- SheSaid on the French wikiquote: New : 65 / Improved : 7 (final data from January 3rd !)
- On Igbo incubator: 40 entries created so far ! (though not all listed ?)
- SheSaid on the Catalan wikiquote: 20 article created and 2 improved articles
- SheSaid on the Spanish wikiquote: 9 entries created.
The lack of women’s voices in the digital domain is a global issue, one that we can collective work on in order to change how women are viewed. Wiki Loves Women is awed by the response and enthusiasm to the second edition of this drive, and looks forward to the third version in 2022! We urge that anyone can join this initiative and continue to make an impact by adding more articles about women !

- Great ! Thanks User:Koavf. Anthere (talk)
- I am really interested but faced misuse of access. Some small wikis suffers a lot. I have been blocked indefinite in Persian Wikiquote based on Persian Wikipedia's gossips, and I have issues in Arabic Wikiquote too, just been blocked for a week; Because lack of the local policies like Image use policy, Quotability, etc... and a pro-blocking admin there, made me semi-retired. Ruwaym (talk) 20:14, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Bytheway, I Improved many entires of women in both Arabic and Persian Wikiqoutes, out of time, like: Farzaneh Ta'idi, Shirin Ebadi, Farzaneh Kabuli, Googoosh, Leila Forouhar, Tahmineh Milani, Fatemeh Mo'tamed-Araia, Niki Karimi - Ibtihal al-Khatib, Nadin Labaki, Rahma Riad, Arab women and Women. They really said cool things.
- But the access-holders are not chosen for their logical reasoning and familiarity with universal principles, "community consensus" is always matter, even if a clear violation occurs. So #SheSaid cannot be universal while there is misuse of access by local people in small wikis. With Regards. Ruwaym (talk) 20:30, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

Here it is the 2022 Italian page event. We absolutely need the central notice banner this year, can someone already start to think about? 🥰 --Camelia (talk) 21:33, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Good idea Camelia. We can definitely do that. Do you suggest we ask for a central notice only on wikiquote ? Are wikiquote/meta ? Or more than that ? What do you think ? User:Ciell can probably help on this ? Anthere (talk)
- @Anthere Of course, having it on Wikipedia and Wikiquote, even if not for all the two month (let's say 2 weeks at the beginning), would be great. But should work also only on Wikiquote, I know communities have many things to promote with banners (WokiDonne itself has other activities during that period that would like to know). --Camelia (talk) 07:17, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- Ok. Let me create a quick request and we can discuss with the central notice admin what would be the best regime of display depending on what’s displayed at that time. Anthere (talk)

Hi, I hope I will be attending on jawp and maybe on wikidata.
Question: One small ripple. Have many-one encouraged your community to add hashtag on article-talkpage for SheSaid? I am keen to know if before/after hashtag, you find more articles added locally? My hunch is that ear-marking those contribute/support SheSaid is a convenient way to those people among jawp editors/readers who are not quite happy about adding not-popular female somebody. Very sorry, but I sense supporting equality/lowering gender gap on jawp has lowered its voltage, and wonder how it will attract more editors/readers on the subject. Me personally love to hear stories of who said what, and thrilled to listened to the She sphere <3 --Omotecho (talk) 22:17, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Omotecho Same for me. It's not just about the Women, not about Patriarchy vs Feminism, It's about being Liberal and Modernist. Liberalism and Humanism is not widely accepted in Persian and Arab wp and wk. I faced troubles there, a multi-identital-cultural-racial user have no choice but to contribute only in English projects. Ruwaym (talk) 10:16, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
- I do not think anyone added the hashtag on the talk page of the articles. Worth trying... Perhaps you could try a template, mentioning the article is from #shesaid ? Anthere (talk)
- @Anthere, hi, the hashtag idea is borrowed from w:en:Women_in_Red. @Camelia might have better orientation to offer from WiR sphere please? --re-positioned my comment as timestamp-wise. Omotecho (talk) 02:28, 15 July 2022 (UTC) / Omotecho (talk) 01:38, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

Content duplication[edit]
Dear Islahaddow,
You have reverted my edit without any explanation. I probably should have asked before doing this massive change, I chose to be bold instead.
- Shouldn’t we have the header menu in the main page?
- Is this expected to have the same content duplicated through pages? If so, cannot we use transclusion instead of repeating the same content, to facilitate maintenance and translation?
-- Pols12 (talk) 20:43, 20 August 2022 (UTC)
- Dear User:Pols12
- This was a glitch in my system and I apologise for inadvertently reverting your edit. I had so many tabs open while doing the banner change and page rearrangement that when I closed down my browser it automatically saved an earlier version, thereby reverting your change. I am sorry ... I was grateful for your boldness and do not let this hold you back in future ... Islahaddow (talk) 10:43, 24 August 2022 (UTC)

SheSaid Philippines 2022[edit]
Hi everyone,
This is just to notify the organizers that the Wiki Advocates Philippines will be joining this year's campaign through our own local Wikiquote projects, Wikisambit and Wikikawikaan who are both scheduled to have their own domains soon. We are open to any form of collaboration or any task that would be assigned to our group as support for the International campaign. The group is also working on a grant request to support this year's local campaign. Thank you very much. On behalf of Wiki Advocates Philippines, Kunokuno (talk) 06:42, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

Central Notice[edit]
Hello. A request has been done here : CentralNotice/Request/SheSaid but has not yet seems to generate much attention. User:Ciell and Camelia, can you be the leads on this part and make sure it happens ? Anthere (talk)
- Hello @Camelia.boban @Ciell – We have lots of images and materials that can be used to make an arresting site notice for SheSaid - what do you need from me? Islahaddow (talk) 11:38, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Islahaddow, I learned in the TG channel that @Jeremyb would be designing the banner and the campaign. I do not really have the bandwith to coordinate global banners atm, also because there is a bug that requires a CN admin (or the steward) to be around al through the campaign to check for and push to live all the translations that come in. This means a lot of extra work.... :(
- In general on the banner request, I would say: please limit the number of countries you want to target to the number of countries actually participating in the campaign. As you can see in the calendar, October is a busy month for CN campaigns. Ciell (talk) 10:08, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Islahaddow can I propose to create a derivative of File:Wikiloveswomen logo piece only.png with instead of the Women in the center, a small speaking cloud or something similair? The CN banner request still needs:
- one landing page
- one image
- a line of text of 50-70 characters.

- Comment: gorgeous. Generally, I do like white-text-on-color background, but there can sometimes be issues with display, printing, accessibility, or readability. I don't think that's true here, but some typographic designers prefer to avoid that for those reasons. Good luck with that fourth one: I can easily see the scenario where you get some very negative feedback for it. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 23:09, 30 September 2022 (UTC)

Hello all,
So I share with you the banners we suggest, which one do you prefer? Please feel free to make suggestions.
Afek91 (talk) 11:27, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- my personal favorite is the third. Second best is the first image. Anthere (talk) 11:58, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- Putting Elliot Page on a banner about women quotes and misgendering him twice seems rather awkward, to say the least.
- It could be seen as offensive and I guess a lot more quotes could be included instead. TheSingleMalt (talk) 13:13, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
Proposition of Webinars[edit]
Hello...
So... I am going to see with @Natacha LSP when I could do a small training session in French in partnership with LSP...
Does anyone feel like hosting a webinar + Q&A in English ? Perhaps amongst those who participated last year ? I can help and I can join of course. I am super packed this week, but I am at home this week-end (perhaps a Saturday morning for Europeans-Africans (around 10 UTC+2 ?) or super late on Friday for others (around 11 UTC+2 ?). Thoughts ?
Next week will be complicated for I as well because I will be travelling with Wikimedia France to help on a giant edit-a-thon. I will do SheSaid stuff, but it would be very complicated for me to host or join a webinar (not sure when I will be free, not sure about the internet connexion...) Anthere (talk) 11:58, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- It's great that a training video will be made available in French. Does that mean there would not be any made this year in English? Prithee P (talk) 17:39, 3 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello again. I did it in more languages. We currently have English, French, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian here Wiki Loves Women/SheSaid/Participating Communities. I have not been able to do it in Igbo and Bengali (the language code does not show in Quary). Maybe this is because the wikis are very new ? Anthere (talk) 11:08, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

NPOV violation in the landing page[edit]
Phrase "Aside from the alpha male displayed on home page, check out the people list and look for women..." may be seen acceptable in English (I don't know), but in literal translation into Russian (as example) this become radically non-neutral. Generally, sarcastic style is bad practice. Kaganer (talk) 22:43, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- It’s fine in Russian as well as in English. It’s supposed to be a sarcastic note about the state of Wikiquote’s coverage. It fulfils that purpose in both languages. stjn[ru] 12:26, 16 October 2022 (UTC)
Hmmmm... three things... first... welcome to your first edition in Russian !
Second... could you please add the link to the SheSaid project page in Russian ? I do not read Russian myself, but it would be great to add it the list of all language project pages... here Wiki Loves Women/SheSaid/Participating Communities
Third... I must say that my understanding of « Alpha » male is such that this mention of « Alpha » is not appropriate to the main page. According to Wikipedia, it means in groups of animals is the most dominant male of its social group. The Alpha male is to be opposed to the beta males, the first being the dominant over the other males. This is quite unrelated to what we are currently doing... I am fairly sure that amongst all the men having entries in Wikiquote, some are alpha and some beta... and so what ? Plus, it is rather slang vocabulary... not super professional. But in any cases... this is unrelated to what we are doing.
What we are trying to do is to give more visibility to our most notable women.
So I’d say that the above sentence is not appropriate. It should be rephrased. But again, I do not read Russian... so can only rely on you to do the best thing :) Usually... relying on facts is a pretty cool thing to do. Anthere (talk) 11:17, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
Speaking of facts on entries from wikiquote also in Wikidata
Anthere (talk) 11:21, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Anthere: It is not about alpha, it is about male. Russian language has no direct, concise and neutral equivalents for English male and female. The equivalents for male animal and female animal (самец and самка, the former used in the translation of alpha male) are strictly for animals. Using them to address people is a gross insult. Unless, of course, the person publicly accepts the sexually-loaded language - which, I believe, Trump did not, certainly not in its Russian-language connotation. Retired electrician (talk) 15:03, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
Great discussion, very inspiring. While jawq does not run a campaign yet, your discussion made me recall: in Japanese language, adding male/female makes the attributed person look beast-like / non-intelligent, or the speaker is insulting. Maybe it's linked with our Buddhist ideology, that your wrong deed in this life, will let you incarnate into lower grade of living form, meaning animal/insects. Off topic: For Alpha, the old schoolers in the society of Japan like the term "boss", and yes, its neutral sexually. I will include woman bosses as a keyword as well for my search, maybe those shes are not that prominent, but might have left a quote which other people remembers. -- Omotecho (talk) 12:05, 30 November 2022 (UTC)
Ideas for translating "SheSaid" into languages with no gendered pronouns[edit]
Hungarian has no gendered pronouns (the word for 'he' and 'she' is the same in Hungarian). Any thoughts on a good way to translate "SheSaid"? How is it done in Estonian, Finnish, Chinese and other nongendered languages? -- Malatinszky (talk) 13:46, 20 October 2022 (UTC)
- Keep the name of the initiative as is ? (#SheSaid) Anthere (talk) 22:58, 21 October 2022 (UTC)
- It's translated correctly for Chinese. There is a different word for "he" vs. "she". OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:44, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Translation : Is it possible to create another campaign in which I myself can participate. I would love to create Unicode characters in Wiktionary.
- I’d love to see some Russian quotes here as well. My suggestion... 1) create a project page on the Russian Wikiquote. 2) add your project page here
- But please note SheSaid is done on Wikiquote... not on Wiktionary ! Anthere (talk) 15:21, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
- Этим займутся другие участники. Я люблю больше создавать и редактировать слова, морфемы и фразеологизмы.-- Блинов Рюрик Петрович (talk + contributions) 16:05, 1 December 2022 (UTC)

Wolof Wikiquote[edit]
The Wolof Wikiquote is on the verge of being closed! I have added as much as I can, but it (and the other Wolof projects) need some tender loving care form someone who knows the language. If that can be part of the She Said project so much the better! Rich Farmbrough 20:59 13 November 2022 (GMT).
Upcoming Film[edit]
There is a film that shares the same name "She Said" which is set for release this weekend (November 18th, 2022).
The banners notifying users of #sheSaid could be misconstrued as advertising. Cashew.wheel (talk) 11:27, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- That's true and kind of an unfortunate coincidence. Do you have a recommendation? —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 12:16, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- It is unfortunate. Perhaps rewording the banner to emphasize the "Wikipedia Loves Women" and not focus on the hashtag #sheSaid? Cashew.wheel (talk) 17:42, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
Dr. Hoàng Xuân Sính[edit]
I'd like to nominate Dr. Hoàng Xuân Sính, the first Vietnamese female mathematician, a student of Grothendieck, the founder of Thang Long University in Hanoi. --Fourier-Deligne Transgirl (talk) 12:57, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- If you'd like to include material about her in this campaign, you can find a source for quoting her and add that to one of the many editions of Wikiquote that exist. The English-language one is largest, but you are welcome to edit any of them and already have an account there with the same credentials that you used to post your message above. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 13:12, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

- Hi, @Afek91, I nominated myself to add citation for Utada Hikaru, then my challenge is that to find the equivalent quote in Japanese language. I expected the workflow: (1) try machine translation and match for Utada's quote, (2) search online to target that translation, and (3) bingo! However, I am stacked with (1). I am not a French speaker, so maybe I shall drop self nomination on the Workboard, what do you think? Cheers, -- Omotecho (talk) 14:21, 25 November 2022 (UTC)

Question about this project[edit]
Hi everyone. I think this is a wonderful initiative and I definitely intend to spread the word about it on my blog. I just wanted to check and make sure that the goal of the project is to showcase actual women (adult human females, born females, without male genitalia)? I hate to have to clarify, but unfortunately there is already so much intrusion into women’s spaces by men masquerading as women that I feel it’s necessary. Thanks. Realwomenfirst (talk) 02:57, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- This project does not have any perspective on which kind of genitals someone has to have, therefore, you will not want to promote it on your blog. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 18:51, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- Ho Koavf, if you mean to equate women such as myself with real concerns about the erosion of womanhood, rights, and sexuality with “genital fetishists,” perhaps you should think about how better to veil your personal attack. If it’s acceptable for you, for example, to refer to a lesbian’s lack of sexual attraction to men as a genital obsession, then would it be acceptable for me to refer to a transgender “lesbian” as an autogynephilic fetishist? Realwomenfirst (talk) 19:03, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
- This isn't a forum for hateful conspiracy theories. I've answered your question, we're not getting into a debate here. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 19:14, 28 November 2022 (UTC)

Is there a place to make bookmark and postcard suggestions?[edit]
Hello, this is my first post on this wiki, I saw the #SheSaid campaign on Wikiquote and was wondering if there is a place to discuss postcards and bookmarks? I was going to suggest women involved in early American comic books, specifically: Lauretta Bender, Elizabeth Holloway Marston and Olive Byrne (Rosalind Kirby has no Wikipedia page despite being one of the few women to ink comics at the time). I was also wondering what the consensus was regarding religious figures, whether there would be a sliding scale of acceptability according to historicity.
Sorry if this is the wrong place for this, I just wanted to help encourage participation and thought I might be able to assist in that. CensoredScribe (talk) 19:31, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
