Excluded properties

Hello,

I would like to point out that, per phab:T254646, the use of "black list" or "blacklist" is discouraged, so "excluded properties" could be used instead and is actually more descriptive.

Also, could that list be moved to a configuration file outside of the main Databox module (Lua file)? This would make it easier to upgrade the module without losing the excluded properties. Huñvreüs (talk) 16:54, 19 November 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Huñvreüs, thanks for the feedback. That's a really good point on the terminology and I will be going through our documentation and written-materials and replace with excluded properties or similar (especially since that is the name we have applied to the new parameter). As for the property_blacklist within the code, that may be trickier but I will consult with our engineers to see if it is something we can change.

Hello @Huñvreüs, I am happy to share that we changed the variable name to be more inclusive, and have updated our relevant documentation.

property_blacklist has been changed to site_excluded_properties

We have updated to the newest code version in all pilot Wiki modules our newer databox version had been updated. We intend to make this the main code version at Wikidata, where most Wikis will get the code to install to their local Wiki.

As for Wikis where databox already exists, we will have to open a conversation with them to see if they would like the most recent databox version (including the new parameters described above) to be installed to their Module pages.
