Talk:Wikilists

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

I don't think en entirely new wiki is needed for this. How about a List: namespace within wikipedia? Jacoplane 06:27, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have to agree with this, a new Wiki would be overkill. Another downside is the level of subjectivity to which lists can be victim. For example, does the list of songs about bipolarity include any song which any one person kinda thinks might be related or do we only let in songs that have a Certificate of Subject Matter signed in triplicate by the original artist? I had a look at w:Special:Longpages. Of the first 50, 31 have titles "List of..." and a further 8 have titles that indicate that they are probably lists. Most of those lists look as though they probably should not be really be on Wikipedia. If lists such as w:List of cities in Japan are deemed useful, then I would support moving them to a separate project. -- w:User:LesleyW (talk) 203.110.29.30 22:54, 27 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

They are indexes, why should we not have them on Wikipedia? They may be long, but so? Split them into smaller lists, or replace them with categories. -- user:zanimum

On the german wikipedia theres a strong (and still getting stronger) tendency agains "list articles", new "list only articles" are either deleted or integrated into an existing article of that topic if found relevant in the "deletion candidate discussion". But still..those lists might be usefull for someone...so I like the idea of putting all that in a new seperate project. FreddyE 10:43, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Also Wikisource we had disscusion about whether or not to keep articles like "List of Prime Numbers" and some other Cryptography lists. We have decided to keep these but I think it would great if all the list could find a home together at Wikilist.--69.153.100.8 19:38, 14 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm often frustrated by the way that lists in Wikipedia articles get started only to later on be dropped when there was still so much more potential to them. (Too long, too diverse or obscure, too disorganized, etc.) Though I can agree with the above sentiments that a wiki just for lists might be overkill, however it is done, I'd love to see some something like this and I might contribute to several.

List: namespace on es-wiki[edit]

Currently there is a poll in Spanish language Wikipedia on list policy, that might lead to the creation of a List: namespace (as a temporal measure before Wikilists become a new Wikimedia project).

Note, however, that this proposal is not only about lists, but also include tables and other related pieces of info that are not encyclopedic articles per se.

Poll is ready and the Appendix namespace has been approved.
