Talk:Wikimedia Blog/Drafts/An Awareness Campaign for Wikipedia in Camaroon: Iolanda Pensa

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Thanks for the post! I have corrected some little things but there is one I consider pretty important: it was not the Wikimedia Foundation getting Orange to cover the TV time because they have a Wikipedia zero partnership (it appears in the article that this is the link); it was doual'art organizing it and it was not planned in the original proposal. Orange covered all the expenses to have the video on TV (of course the video was produced thanks to the support of Wikimedia Foundation).

At this point it is important also to mention that the reason Wikimedia Foundation established a partnership for Wikipedia zero with Orange is because in 2009 doual'art established the contact with Orange: Orange and Wikimedia Foundation got together at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio centre (with Sara Crouse and Yann Kandelman), and there started the partnership. This is not simply a detail, it definitely chances the dynamic of the story. I think it makes sense to acknowledge that African partners are not necessarily the beneficiary of Global South initiatives, they are also promoter of it. --iopensa (talk) 13:01, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
