I’ve been fortunate enough to know Shani for around a decade, and in that time, I’ve come to know her as an honest, thoughtful, productive contributor to the global Wikimedia movement — someone whose voice I’m very glad to have on the Wikimedia Board. I’m thrilled that Shani has graciously agreed to serve another term if re-elected, and strongly support her candidacy.

Since Shani joined our movement, she’s been focused on programs, devoted to bringing even more people into our movement. Through her support of education and GLAM efforts, Shani has facilitated a significant amount of content added to Wikimedia projects. She’s helped foster community among me and other education program leaders with her creation of the Wikipedia & Education User Group. In her own teaching, she’s taught hundreds of students to add great content to Wikipedia and Wikidata. I’ve had the pleasure of discussing numerous topics related to Wikipedia, Wikidata, our communities, the Wikimedia strategy, and more with Shani, and she’s a fierce advocate for an inclusive, welcoming movement that looks to the future. Her voice enriches the Wikimedia Board.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, especially amidst a diverse group of Board members overseeing a large-budget organization like the Wikimedia Foundation. But I believe in the change Shani has been pushing for in her term, and I urge others to join me in giving her the opportunity to keep enacting her vision. Already, Shani has pushed for the Community Affairs Committee, in an effort to bring the voices and perspectives of the community into Board discussions. She has spearheaded the efforts to have regular Board calls with community members, offering an opportunity for questions and answers, increasing transparency in what can feel like an opaque body. I am eager to see what additional changes Shani can bring to the Board with another term. Liannadavis (talk) 20:09, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Shani has done an amazing job as a trustee, and I am confident that she will continue to perform well and especially keep the BoT work accountable to the community.

She comes from the community, with a track record of creating and supporting sustainable and efficient volunteer-based programs and organizations. I have myself met Shani as I was launching educational programs, and her support to my activities has been incredibly generous.

As a trustee, she has had a leading role in establishing bonds between the BoT and the community. For instance, she set up the advisory committee that confirmed the pause in renaming the foundation to Wikipedia Foundation. Shani has also worked to create the Community Affairs Committee to improve communication and support to community initiatives. She has been instrumental in promoting more participation from Global South communities in our movement.

I strongly support the continuation of her work as a Wikimedia trustee. --Joalpe (talk) 12:56, 19 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Election[edit]

Hi Shani,

Congratulations to your re-election to the board. We look forward to your promise to engage the CEO in the NPP concerns and also to some focus from the board on volunteer level issues. Without the volunteers there is no Wikipedia.

Kind regards,
