We'll work to have documentors to cover each session. -- Namayan 00:55, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Hi Geopoet, I do recognize your concerns. It is not in our intention to create a program to favor a particular audience. I hope you do not look at it as favoring Manila based members. I presented a plan around February, didn't get Board approval (because of a legal complication) to come up with this kind of a set-up, until last week, so I am in great pressure to execute something, and still push our capabilities in holding conferences in these manner. I was also faced with availability issues of some key persons for a two-day affair. There were other constraints, but I have to look beyond that and not be tied down by the situation.
In all honesty, this is still an experiment (a first for the Chapter) to try on holding simultaneous sessions just like how Wikimedia conferences are designed. Apparently not everyone would be interested in all discussions (had this been just one forum for all) that's why we have to provide them with options. We don't want to bore anyone. We want them to find their niche and interest. I for one during the Chapters Meeting in Berlin last year would not sit and listen in a technical discussion, there were even two instances that I was torn between two discussions held simultaneously. This is the reason that's why these conferences/discussions will have documentors so we can produce documentation of what took place in every discussion, and have others the opportunity study the ones they missed.
If this goes well, we will be holding on possibly doing a two/three day conference next year, this will open an opportunity for us to test our capabilities, discover who have abilities to lead small group discussion. At this point I still would like to discover and find talent beyond those I have asked to lead small group discussions. Ideally topics are discussed for two hours, but I don't know if every group discussion lead can sustain that. Your feedback is valuable, and it would be solicited during the debriefing/feedback plenary session. -- Namayan 14:59, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
Namayan Thank you for the quick response. Actually, this would be my first attendance and I'd like to take the opportunity to learn a lot thru this forum. We also have plans for the Bicol Wikipedia and we wish to learn from your experiences. I'd just hope that everybody's "open" for suggestions. Hope to see you soon. We'd try our best to make it worthwhile, I would like to apologize in advance because of the time and logistical constraints that was beyond my control. I am very much open to feedback, coupled with commitments to help out to make things better, its for you and for the organization after all. -- Namayan 04:30, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Suggestion: is it possible if we can have live streaming for the sessions so that people can follow them? Personally I prefer a two-day conference to a one-day one, but streaming might allow people to attend more sessions, if only virtually.
Also, speaking from Wikimania experience: if you don't like a session, it will be easy for you to switch between rooms, so technically you can have a "taste" of each session. --Sky Harbor (talk) 07:12, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
You know I wanted a two-day conference too. But I wasn't given so much time to prepare, and I don't know who to tap yet for speakers or discussion leads. Perhaps this 1-day conference would be enough to look for potential discussion leads for the 2013 WikiConference. As for the infrastructure, I cannot guarantee that yet, apart from suggestions I would need commitments to help me carry out your ideas. -- Namayan 08:15, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
Plenary and Room 1 should be merged. --Filipinayzd (talk) 07:46, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Merged how? Specifically, which sessions? --Sky Harbor (talk) 09:19, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
The program stays as it is, if any of the discussion group leads won't be available I'll assign another person. -- Namayan 16:20, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Hi Irvin and the Bikol community, the format that we are adapting is the usual format for conferences not only by multinational companies here in the Philippines but in most countries as well. Our goal is to veer away from the usual "sermon" type format where speakers talk the whole day and bore everyone to death. This format is more dynamic and interactive because we can discuss simultaneous topics and the participants can "cherry pick" their preferred topics. This also pushes people to think and squeeze out those creative juices. We are trying to use the best practices that we learned from our respective organizations and incorporate it to our internal processes. Before scrutinizing this, my suggestion is for everyone to keep an open mind and accept what the project team is doing first, and provide feedback afterwards, that way we can see if what we did fits the maturity of the audience. Change could be difficult but we have to go through it to become a better oganizationSunkissedguy (talk) 02:57, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
