Wikibooks[edit]

Hi

Shortcut for Wikibooks is https://w.wiki/3b

Whereas https://w.wiki/b is already used for a specific wikipedia article.

One letter links should be reserved for WMF site main pages.

Will this be fixed for 2022 ?

@DavidL: phab:T220432 shows that making that be manually configured was declined. — xaosflux Talk 16:20, 27 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Use in Wikimedia Commons image crediting[edit]

Hi!

Would using a Commons link compacted via the shortener be compliant with CC BY 4.0 requirements re: linking to the original image? Vadim Galimov (talk) 15:57, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Vadim Galimov: In my (non-lawyer) opinion I think using short URLs is compliant with the Creative Commons terms of attribution. That said, I would recommend using the full URL to Commons unless you're short on space/characters. Legoktm (talk) 18:55, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dumps[edit]

Hi TheresNoTime. At the target of the added link there is .gz files which won't mean a lot to some, and there is no information on whether they are the links for the past time period, or they are a cumulative for all time. Would you please put that clarity against the link. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:48, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Blocked users can't make short URLs."[edit]

I keep getting this error while trying to use the shortener even though I am not blocked. Well, the IP is blocked for anonymous editing because it's dynamic, but my account isn't - I can make edits and do everything else.

What am I doing wrong? Amberkitten (talk) 17:55, 21 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
