Proposed future schedule
[edit]What's a good day?
[edit]- first Saturday of the month
- good for me phoebe | snark! 17:31, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- works well for me. Aude 17:37, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- this is Sunday in Australia, which is good for me. John Vandenberg 02:17, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- a good day for reflection. better than weekdays. –SJ · talk | translate 16:25, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- first Sunday of the month
- also good for me phoebe | snark! 17:31, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- should also work for me, but prefer Saturday or a later time on Sunday Aude 17:37, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- only if it is in the small hours of Sunday, otherwise it is Monday morning here in Australia. John Vandenberg 02:17, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- weekday (which one?)
- any, really. I like Tuesdays and Thursdays in the evening. notafish }<';> 23:35, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- any. John Vandenberg 02:17, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
What's a good time?
[edit]We need to rotate times no matter what.
- 17:00 UTC
- phoebe | talk 17:48, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- For European users who have a life beyond Wikimedia, 17.00 UTC is probably the worst time ever. It's the time you: frantically try to finish your work before you go home, bathe the kids, start making dinner, your mother calls you, you are stuck in the bus going home after a day of university... in short, it sucks :) So, we need to think of a rotating time for European users :) notafish }<';> 23:31, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- OK, I was trying (futilely?) to find a time that would catch India & the U.S. West Coast. Would 18:00 or 19:00 UTC be better? -- phoebe | talk 17:42, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- (Honestly, 1700UTC is not that great for the west coast on a saturday, either! later is fine with me). -- phoebe | talk 17:50, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
- For Australians, this time slot requires staying up after midnight or getting up really early. (Perth: 1am; Sydney: 4am) 18:00 is better, and 21:00 is even better as it means all of Australia is getting up early to attend. John Vandenberg 02:09, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- It is difficult to have a convenient slot for all people. It may be worth while alternating between two time slots, one of which is convenient for any person.
For India I suggest 1530 UTC.--Arjunaraoc 11:00, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- other preferred times?
- 20.00 or 21.00 UTC (with focus on Europe) notafish }<';> 23:31, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- This would be a better time for Australians. John Vandenberg 02:14, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- Well, eastern Australians. That's 04:00-05:00 in Perth. :P 15.30 UTC actually works here (23:30) but not for the easterners. Orderinchaos 12:45, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- This would be a better time for Australians. John Vandenberg 02:14, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
- 20.00 or 21.00 UTC (with focus on Europe) notafish }<';> 23:31, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- just to repeat what i said and isn't in the actual log: "alternating times (asia/pacific - america/africa/europe) are a propper solution and also a chance to structure the topics on the table more efficient", "we will not find one time acceptable for all around the globe. publishing the log is the obvious solution and people can decide about the value of the conversations themselfs by reading it", regards --Jan eissfeldt 19:59, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Rotation
[edit]1. Should we alternate days?
2. There is general agreement on alternating times. Should this be switching between two convenient times? Rotating forward by N hours every time (and dropping back a day when it crosses to Sunday)? Revisiting regularly as would-be attendees change?
- proposal
how about this for a rotation proposal:
- Feb 5 was at 1800UTC -- good for North America and Europe
- Mar 5 should be at a time good for "the rest of the world" -- 0900? That's basically a good time for everywhere except the Americas.
- then back to 1800ish for April
Alternative:
- 2100 was also proposed as a time for Europe -- this could be the Mar. 5 time and April we could rotate to a time for Asia/oceania.

Comments
[edit]- Don't care which day; approve of changing the time; would like an 'interest list' and delivery of a message to my talk page (which for me happens to be on EN, and we spoke about the need to post cross-wiki) a few days before the meet, giving some idea of the remit. Chzz 17:34, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- I've found that 21:00 UTC can work well for some international meetings. If the meeting can be kept under 2 hours, it should still be finished before midnight in Europe. It's 1pm in San Francisco which works well if you want people from the office there to attend during their working day. It's 8am in Sydney during the southern hemisphere summer. It's harder in winter since 8am in Sydney becomes midnight in Europe. Angela 10:28, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- It wont work for India/Asia. Meeting to end before 1730UTC specifically for India.--Arjunaraoc 11:08, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Maybe one meeting at 21:00 and the next at 9:00 would work best? Angela 14:00, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- I like Phoebe's suggestion - 09:00 is 17:00 in China, 16:00-17:00 in SE Asia, 18:00 in East Asia, 17:00-20:00 in Australia, 14:30 in India and 09:00-12:00 throughout Europe and the Middle East. Three hours later would bring in the east coast of the US (07:00 their time, 08:00 during their summer) while not being unreasonable in any of the others above. Having alternating times (whether two per Phoebe or three per Jan) is a good idea as it includes different people and hence brings in different perspectives/ideas. Orderinchaos 12:43, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
- so you're suggesting 1200UTC as a time? that's fine too. -- phoebe | talk 17:49, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- Sounds good, but it won't work unless we can solicit our projects for participants. Additionally, language will be a barrier, which may interfere with the idea of moving the time. Still, I think it's a pretty good idea.-- ℳono 22:10, 10 February 2011 (UTC)
March 5
[edit]Did it happen? Did anyone come? -- phoebe | talk 13:05, 7 March 2011 (UTC)
- It did not. We should have one this month. –SJ · talk | translate 21:02, 18 March 2011 (UTC)
- Let's try to hold to our schedule in June. The first saturday would be June 4 -- It will be fun :-) Did the time of day seem good last time? –SJ talk | translate 06:45, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- We had a great meeting! let's keep it up. -- phoebe | talk 20:14, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Chapter meetings
[edit]Hi all. WMUK is now running Community IRC meetings every 2 weeks (the next one is tomorrow evening, 31 May). Would it be suitable to also list/mention these here? Mike Peel 08:23, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, but all means. –SJ talk | translate 00:04, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
- Cool, thanks. :-) I'm a little worried that they will mask the global meetings, though, since the UK ones are happening every 2 weeks at the moment, compared with every 3-4 months for the global ones... Will it be a problem if the WMUK ones keep being added? Mike Peel 22:20, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
October 7-8 Board meeting
