Talk:Wikimedians of Jordan User Group
Add topicGeneral Questions from AffCom
[edit]Dear Wikimedians in Jordan, thank you for your patience and interest in becoming a Wikimedia affiliate.
I would like to ask a few questions to have all the relevant information in one place (one-two paragraph summaries or links to other pages are fine), which we use to get to know you better and to have a catalog of all affiliates as we ask all of them a very similar set of questions. These will be useful for your application both as a chapter and as a user group. Please know, that there are no "expected" or wrong answers.
- Who are the people behind this application?
- How many?
- any active (on local or international level) Wiki[pm]edians? (please provide user names and wiki where most active)
- Active in which communities if any?
- How are they geographically distributed?
- Could you give a short overview of the time path of the founding up to now?
- Have there been any activities/meetings etc. of this group of people?
- What kind of activities are planned for the future in the chapter?
- Do you have an overview of how many Wikimedians would like to join the User Group when founded?
- How can we help you?
- [Question only for user group]: If you were recognized first as a user group, what name would you like to use? (There are some templates at Step-by-step_user_group_creation_guide#Naming_of_user_groups.)
- [Question only for user group]: Do you have 2 contact persons who would be willing to sign the Wikimedia_User_Group_Agreement for the group?
- [Question only for user group]: For how long do you request the user group recognition? (The default is a renewable one year term)
Thank you for your time in answering these questions. These help us get a feel for your group and determine how far along the process towards affiliation are you at the moment. Let me know if you need any clarifications. --Maor X (talk) 19:09, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

In response to your questions, here goes:
- Who are the people behind this application?
Wikimedians from Jordan and Palestine (Even from any Arabic Country), with a focus on activity in Jordan.
- How many?
At this time, we probably have about 40-50 known people interested, although there are more on our Facebook page.
- Any active (on local or international level) Wiki[pm]edians?
Yes.
- Active in which communities if any?
We have a number of editors (such as Mustafa Momani - user name:mustfanoo1992, and Abbad Deranyya) who are active in the Education Program. We wish to be one of this user group in the Affiliate Committee in the soon future.
- How are they geographically distributed?
Right now, most of our support is in the Amman and Irbid in Jordan and Ramallah in Palestine, although there is one person from Syria, one from Libya and one from United Arab Emirates.
- Could you give a short overview of the time path of the founding up to now?
In the summer of 2012, Shadi Aljawarneh, Yaser khamayseh and Muneer bani Yassien suggested that we have to create an interest group in order to eventually found a chapter. In March of 2013, there was a meeting where Wikimedians from Amman and Irbid, and we another virtual meeting was in September of 2013.
- Have there been any activities/meetings etc. of this group of people?
We have regularly meetups in Irbid and Amman, which have been ongoing since 2012. We also have had numerous GLAM events and work with numerous schools, national libraries and faculties in the region.
- What kind of activities are planned for the future in the organization?
In the future, we plan on continuing GLAM events, and have discussed outreach with the Ramallah, Amman and Irbid Cities Archives in order to gain some connections within Jordan and Palestine. Eventually, we would like to host Wikimania in the future, due to the proximity of numerous colleges and universities in the area.
- Do you have an overview of how many Wikimedians would like to join the User Group when founded?
At first, we plan on being a small chapter with under 60 people, with the eventual goal of expanding our reach out to Jordan, Palestine and any another Arabic region.
- How can we help you?
We would like assistance with founding a chapter, with the eventual goal of being able to be self-sufficient in a year or so.
- [Question only for user group]: If you were recognized first as a user group, what name would you like to use? (There are some templates at Step-by-step_user_group_creation_guide#Naming_of_user_groups.)
Wikimedians of Jordan User Group.
- [Question only for user group]: Do you have 2 contact persons who would be willing to sign the Wikimedia_User_Group_Agreement for the group?
Myself (Shadi Aljawarneh) and Muneer Bani Yassein.
- [Question only for user group]: For how long do you request the user group recognition? (The default is a renewable one year term)
One year, or until we are recognized as a chapter. The maximum for this would be three years, at which point we would reevaluate whether we have enough organization to be a chapter, should continue our user group status, or should dissolve due to lack of inactivity. I hope this answers everything! Shadi Aljawarneh and Muneer Bani Yassein (talk), 11 April 2014.
A few more questions from AffCom

Actually the meeting was interesting and many issues that are discussed to achieve our vision and mission through proposed a number of mechanisms and strategies.

8. First Workshop, Jordan, May 2014. We completed the first workshop about how to make editors at Wikimedia. For further details please see the following link: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Shadi.jawarneh
- Is there a link to those events? (they don't need to be in English)
Only one link mentioned in the answer above. After obtaining the official approval, it is possible to add links and more details.
- Could the user names of the wikimedians interested in participating in this group please sign with their wiki signatures?
I'll make request to the group members to do this and hopefully they 'll accept this in convenience.
