This is the Wikimedians of Kerala UG's 20th newsletter.
- Updates / Discussions
- On 27th September 2025, we held our user group’s monthly meeting online via Google Meet. Eighteen members attended the meeting. The agenda for the meeting was shared, and everyone was welcomed.
- Ranjithsiji shared updates about the support request by the UG and the annual plan published on Meta-Wiki.
- Irvin and Manoj shared plans for organizing Wiki Loves Birds this year. More updates will be shared soon.
- Jinoy shared updates on the ongoing campaigns — Wiki Loves Onam 2025 and Wiki Loves Schools — supported by the UG. More than 400 images have been uploaded for both WLO and WLS campaigns.
- User:Vijayanrajapuram and Ranjithsiji discussed future plans for the Wiki Loves Schools campaign.
- Jinoy shared about the past Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos 2025 campaign on Malayalam Wikipedia, which was also supported by the UG. Twelve participants contributed to over 100 Wikimedia projects during this period, with more than 500 media files added.
- Athul shared plans for documenting Navarathri programs and invited others to join the initiative.
- Athul, Jinoy, and Ranjith shared updates and experiences from attending IndiaFOSS 2025 in Bangalore, where they managed a Wikimedians of Kerala stall to raise awareness about Wikimedia projects. (Read more...)

The Core Organising Team for WikiDebates is pleased to invite interested Wikimedia affiliates to apply to participate in the upcoming WikiDebates.

- About WikiDebates
WikiDebates is a collaborative knowledge-engagement initiative designed to strengthen critical reasoning, public discourse, and community participation across the Wikimedia movement. The program uses structured debate as a tool to deepen understanding of open knowledge, digital citizenship, and the role of Wikimedia projects in shaping informed societies.
- Program Objectives
- Promote constructive dialogue on themes connected to free knowledge and public information.
- Strengthen community members' capacity in research, argument development, and public speaking.
- Encourage cross-affiliate collaboration and relationship building.
- Highlight shared movement values such as openness, verifiability, diversity, and community governance.
- Who Can Apply
- Recognised Wikimedia User Groups, Chapters, and Thematic Affiliates.
- Affiliates must have an active community and be able to field a small team (2–3 participants) to represent them.
- Teams may include new and experienced contributors; no previous debate experience is required.
- Expected Participation
- Attend a virtual orientation and training session.
- Participate in scheduled debate rounds between affiliates.
- Demonstrate respect, collaboration, and adherence to friendly space policies throughout the program.
- Support Provided
- Orientation and training resources on debate structure and research.
- Coaching sessions and topic guides.
- Publicity and movement-level visibility for participating affiliates.
- How to Apply
Interested affiliates should complete the application form.
- Please provide:
- Affiliate name and contact details.
- Names of proposed team members (3–5 participants).
- A short statement (150–200 words) on why your affiliate wishes to participate.
- Any preferred support needs or time-zone constraints.
Application Deadline: 30 November 2025 Notification of Selected Affiliates: 15 December 2025

- On 25th October 2025, we held our user group’s monthly meeting online via Google Meet. Seventeen members attended and Everyone was welcomed to the meeting. The agenda for the meeting was shared by Ranjithsiji.
- Manoj K and Irvin shared updates about the Wiki Loves Birds campaign in India 2025.
- Jinoy shared the idea behind the anniversary tool and wished Vijayanrajapuram and Erfanebrahimsait on their first edit on Commons and Malayalam Wikipedia.
- Ranjith and Manoj shared an update WikiConference Kerala 2025. Planning to organise the event on the 20th and 21st December in Thrissur.

Announcing the GLAM India User Group - Get Involved!

Hello there,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share information about a recently initiated community effort, the GLAM India User Group, and to invite interested members of Wikimedians of Kerala to take part.
GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums) initiatives focus on collaboration between cultural and memory institutions and the Wikimedia community to improve the availability, quality, and sustainability of free knowledge on Wikimedia projects. In the Indian context, GLAM-related work has so far remained largely fragmented and localized. At the same time, there is a significant knowledge gap regarding Indian GLAM institutions, their collections, and related metadata across Wikimedia projects.
The GLAM India User Group has been started as a community led initiative to help unite and streamline GLAM efforts across India, encourage collaboration among contributors, and support more coordinated engagement with cultural institutions. Given India's rich cultural, archival, and linguistic heritage, participation from Wikimedians of Kerala would be very valuable and appreciable.
The user group is currently in its early stages of formation and is not yet affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation (AffCom has currently paused the recognition of new User Groups, Chapters, and Thematic Organizations until March 31, 2026). Membership is open and free, and interested contributors are welcome to join by adding their username to the members list at GLAM India User Group/Members
We would be glad to collaborate with Wikimedians of Kerala on GLAM-related activities, documentation initiatives, and capacity-building efforts.

- On 22nd November 2025, we held our user group’s monthly meeting online via Google Meet. The agenda for the meeting was shared by Ranjithsiji and welcomed everyone to the meeting. Fifteen members attended the meeting.
- Ranjith shared updates about the Wikidata Workshop and 13th Birthday Celebration that has been happened during State of the Map Kerala 2025 event at Payyannur, Kannur.
- Manoj and Ranjith shared updates about the upcoming WikiConference Kerala 2025 which will be held on 20th December at Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA), Thrissur, Kerala.
- Ranjith shared the updates on organising the Malayalam Wikipedia 23rd Birthday Celebration along with the WCK 2025.
- Ranjith shared the invitation received on organising Wikimedia Technical Workshop at Amal Jyothi College of Engineering Kanjirappally.
- Jinoy shared the updates about the Initial discussions about WikiConference India 2026. Inviting the community members to signup and endorse the Grant proposal.
- Athul shared the plans about documenting Quantum Century Exhibition 2025 at Wikimedia Commons.
