Talk:Wikipedia Asian Month 2018/Help desk

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi, This is probably not really relevant to Wikipedia Asian Month, as iirc this more about getting local language content into Wikipedia. However, I was wondering if it would be possible to highlight \ aid in changing opinion on an Asian related subject listed in Wikipedia?

Following recent events in my country, I googled the term swastika out of interest in the history\perception. Unfortunately, there are no page one mentions to the Sancrit \ Hindu \ Indian origins of the term: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=swastika&oq=swastika&aqs=chrome.0.69i59l3j69i60l3.4767j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

This includes the lede \ headline paragraph from the en Wikipedia page: (first search result summary) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

Attempting to make my first edits to Wikipedia, I looked to place the existing details of the origin of the word into the lede \ headline paragraph; explaining my reasoning in looking to better highlight the origin of the term swastika and hopefully add some weight to counter general opinion that this is just a Nazi \ racist symbol. I am probably ignorant of Wikipedia good editing guidelines, but would have hoped for a better response from the Wikipedia user based; rather than the flat no I received with a rejection of my edit. I know the article does explain this later, but if a user never browses to the page; this is not visible from this popular search engine.

As your user base are Wikipedia experts, can anything be done about this? Or is this a dead\useless cause? If I have raised this issue incorrectly, please feel free to apply any edits to assist in progressing this matter.
