Talk:Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos/Participating Communities

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Participation of language Wikipedia[edit]

This project is an excellent initiative; I will like to know if this contest is limited to English Wikipedia or any language Wikipedia can organise there's and get people to participate.

Dear Uzoma, thank you for raising this point to clarify! Every Wikipedia has pages that can be improved by photos, and every community — either by language or locality — can take part. One benefit of organizing in groups is to guide newcomers through the editing process while focusing on meaningful content. WPWP involves finding photos already uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons, then learning and practicing the technique of adding photos to a page. An additional aspect is to write the photo caption in the WP's language; language localizing is definitely part of this activity. -- Deborahjay (talk) 19:02, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Uzoma and compliment of the seasons to you. As Deborahjay correctly stated, it is a multilingual projects for all language Wikipedias and communities. Regards. T CellsTalk 19:57, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Deborahjay and T Cells,

Thank you for the clarification.

@T Cells:, so excited to see two sister projects will hit the road together again, with international community joining soon! Then, would you kindly Tweak all suitable subpages herein to translate please? I will try and translate your WP:Announcement into ja on jawp very soon, but it’s done better _after_ I will translate pages herein into Japanese for the benefit of eager photo-lovers and editors: I’ve read unhappy murmurs locally at jawp, regardless of umbrella subject/project, that reading contribution rules in local language would be a way to feel they had been included. As @Deborahjay: pointed out, for learners, yes, adding images to articles is a fun and learning process to understand the map of editing: very satisfying as well, and that all stays with you if you start smoothly, and you will encourage your friends to come if local rules are given in local tongue as well. Your audience will expand for sure, and if not actually editing, they see how Commons is welcoming. Let’s play fair and inclusive (: --Omotecho (talk) 19:23, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Omotecho and thanks for your feedback. Some of the subpages are still under construction and this is the reason we haven't marked them for translation. When they are ready for translation, I or Deborahjay would inform you. Thanks for your contributions and please stay safe. T CellsTalk 20:47, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@T Cells: nice of you to come and reply, and yes, please ping me when you are ready for translation. Your note made it much reasonable to go ahead and put contest notice into Japanese on jawiki: it would be nice to post an exciting news, anticipate for a thing-to-do and get ready. (I would mention translation is under preparation not to disappoint them). You, too, stay safe please, like your username, I am great fan of Dr.Shin’ya Yamanaka. Cheers, --Omotecho (talk) 00:01, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Omotecho and thanks for your interest in WPWP Campaign. The subpages have now been marked for translation. We will be glad if you could drive the campaign on Jawiki. Here is the organizer's guide. Please let us know if you have any question. T CellsTalk 07:48, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Omotecho Could you please help us translate the text (in bold) to japanese language Join WPWP Campaign to improve Wikipedia articles with photos and win a prize. Thanks for your help. T CellsTalk 19:32, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

┌─────────┘
@T Cells: please pick one as: (A) is naturalized and more direct, indicating the campaign is “going on” 実施中 , and users would “contribute” (に貢献 ←good faith edit); with (B) you can save space and a direct translation of your source text, 1st sentence with inviting “why don’t you” に参加しませんか tone.

  • (A) WPWPキャンペーン実施中。ウィキペディアの記事に画像を追加して改善に貢献すると、各賞が狙えます
  • (B) WPWPキャンペーンに参加しませんか。ウィキペディアの記事に画像を追加して改善すると、各賞が狙えます

Omotecho which of the two translations do you considered better? T CellsTalk 07:49, 9 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
T Cells Yes, (B) WPWPキャンペーンに参加しませんか。ウィキペディアの記事に画像を追加して改善すると、各賞が狙えます。

Similar Idea[edit]

What an idea!! I discussed this similar idea with my team to start a local contest in less than a month. My idea was to use the photos we uploaded to commons in the previous versions of Wiki Loves Monuments to enrich the articles with the appropriate photos with suitable descriptions in Arabic. Your project though is wider. I would be happy to encourage my community to participate in this contest, so we hit two birds with one stone. --Mervat (talk) 16:02, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mervat. We are excited to learn about your previous plan. Please feel free to sign up at Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos/Participating Communities. Regards. T CellsTalk 16:51, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
