Preventing use of scripts or Bots by participants

I have observed instances in past WPWP contests where some participants gained an advantage through the use of automated bots or the adding geo tags, which serve as a technical convenience and feasibility. To ensure fairness and uphold the integrity of the competition, I respectfully request that the use of such methods be reconsidered and adjusted for this edition of the contest. Wikidata Items Wanting Photos

@T Cells I love your project and was thinking out load that since most communities, especially indigenous language communities rlies heavily on the Wikidata Powered infobox dubbed Databox template, I think it will be worthwhile to extend the prizes to individuals who are adding images to Wikidata items. One advantage of it is that it allows every article that is linked to its respective Wikidata item to have an image and also prevent flooding of articles with so many images that could sometimes reduce the rendering of the pages upon request. We will be glad to have this project extended to Wikidata because it allows connection to all other Wikis.

Thank you, @Dnshitobu:. For this year’s edition, we’re experimenting with extending the campaign to Wikidata, and we’ve included prizes for it as well (see the main page). However, we're still facing some challenges with tracking contributions, as the hashtag tool does not capture edits made to Wikidata.

We are using the Outreach Dashboard to track Wikidata contributions this year. That said, I believe we should schedule a meeting to discuss this further and explore ways we can improve the process in future editions. T Cells^Talk 16:38, 3 July 2025 (UTC)

@T Cells I am curious to know how you are going to filter adding image(created claim image) from July to August to filter other edits in that item in Wikidata (user wise in dashboard) since there is no hashtag like #WPWP , is there any specific query? The outreach dashboard is being used to track contributions to Wikidata. It’s a pilot this year, and there would be a lot to learn from this pilot. T Cells^Talk 17:17, 16 August 2025 (UTC)

Infoboxes and captions

I would echo Paloi Sciurala's concerns here. I'm seeing additions of images in the last few days with unsuitable captions per en:MOS:CAPLENGTH. I've only checked additions to plant articles and have seen a variety of issues. Like a caption which merely repeats the article title. As with this edit for example. And still the above one that Paloi Sciurala highlighted.

Another issue I'm seeing is that contestants are maybe unfamiliar with the Talk page. And how after adding an image to an article that didn't previously have one, it is good practice to remove a "needs-photo" or "needs-image" parameter (or an "Image requested" template) from the Talk page. I'm trying to explain this to a contestant as we speak, but it's unclear if such guidance has been included in any contest instructions.

It's not that we all don't forget some of these things every so often, and I don't doubt that most contestants wish to learn and improve, but rather that at the mass-addition speed that contestants can operate at, errors and issues can accumulate rapidly. Automatic image addition

Hello, I've been adding some images to Wikipedia pages listed in [Category:No local image but image on Wikidata]. I am wondering whether it is efficient to do manually, page after page. On Czech Wikipedia, the infoboxes automatically display an image on the page if available on Wikidata. I don't know the technical details, but can this be done everywhere? Databox in french wiki

Both contributors did the same type of problematic edits (add repetitively an inappropriate template in articles) and used the same comment for their editions, with a reference to this project («#WPWP #WPWP4OWR»), hence we patrollers assumed something was wrong with how things were being handled here. There is nothing wrong with how things have been handled here. Clear instructions for participation have been provided, and the campaign is open only to experienced editors.

Query about audio file upload for Lexeme is included as number of audio uploads in this or not

Hello, I am uploading audio files (recording my own voice) and adding those in accurate applicable Lexeme Forms under Wikidata. Those audio uploads are reflecting as "Total uploads" in Wikidata dashboard of Wikipedia_Pages_Wanting_Photos_2025 [[1]]here. My question will you consider those uploads under max audio uploads category or not. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your question. For the 2025 edition, we are running a pilot with Wikidata, and only images added to Wikidata items will be considered. Audio uploads, including those added to Lexeme Forms, will not be counted this year. Best, Reading Beans (talk) 08:47, 8 August 2025 (UTC)
