This draft Access to Nonpublic Information Policy needs your feedback. We will be accepting community comment until 14 February 2014. We look forward to comments on any aspect of the draft.
The Wikimedia projects rely on community participation at every level. Some community members volunteer their time to help safeguard the projects and in this role they sometimes need to access nonpublic information. This information plays a vital role in maintaining the well-being of the projects, but is also highly sensitive in what it can potentially reveal about a particular user. In recognition of the delicate balance required in handling this kind of information, we want to be transparent about the standards which those community members should meet, and what requirements we place on them with respect to the access and disclosure of information. Your feedback on this draft is important to us. We need your help to ensure that this Policy in its final form reflects the balance needed to handle this sensitive data while safeguarding the privacy of both the community members who handle the data and the community members whose data is being handled. After the consultation period, we intend to finalize the draft and present it to the WMF Board of Trustees for its consideration. We have provided translations of the Access to Nonpublic Information Policy draft in Arabic, French, German, Japanese, and Spanish to jumpstart review and discussion of the draft. However, we would be grateful to the community for assistance in improving these translations, translating the draft into more languages, and translating the feedback given by others throughout the course of this consultation period. Please note that there may be comments under the original blog post, in the wikimedia-l thread, and maybe other discussion pages. To the extent those comments could be transferred to this feedback page, that would facilitate our ability to review and comment on the various positions and ideas. Thanks! |
